Responsibilities

• Operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and steam systems within the facility.
• Calibration and adjustment of system controls to optimize performance and energy efficiency.
• Troubleshooting and resolving operational issues with utility systems.
• Prompt response to service calls related to utility system issues.
• Collaborate with other tradespeople, suppliers, and inspectors to ensure code compliance.
• Stay updated on safety standards and utility system codes.
• Communicate with facility manager and team about work status and progress.
• Complete work following Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.

Job description

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of various building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and steam systems. This role ensures that all systems are functioning safely, efficiently, and in compliance with local and national codes and regulations. The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in maintaining the facility's infrastructure and supporting daily operations.

Job Responsibilities

• Operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of utility systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and steam systems within the life science facility.
• Calibration and regular adjustment of system controls to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
• Troubleshooting and resolving operational and functional issues related to utility systems.
• Promptly responding to service calls and requests related to utility system issues.
• Collaborating with other tradespeople, suppliers, and inspectors to ensure proper project work and code compliance.
• Staying updated on changes in safety standards and utility system codes.
• Maintaining clear communication with the facility manager, team members, and other relevant parties about work performed and the status of ongoing projects.
• Completing work in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.

Requirements (Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, And Education And/or Experience)

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Vocational training or apprenticeship, and five years of related experience preferred.
• Understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and steam systems.
• Ability to use basic hand and power tools, familiarity with the use of electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools.
• Ability to read system diagrams and technical manuals for troubleshooting and maintenance.

Working Conditions And/or Physical Requirements

• The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, work in tight spaces, and perform physical labor related to maintenance and repair.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
• Possible frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and outside weather conditions.
