Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Maintenance Technician brings a strong work ethic with the ability to work under minimal supervision and manages multiple projects. The candidate will have a keen eye for the details. The candidate is responsible for maintaining and fixing all aspects of the aquarium and/or any equipment as assigned by the work order system. The Maintenance Technician brings to the position effective communication, excellent guest service skills and the ability to working cooperatively with all other departments and team members.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems using test equipment and hand tools; ensure compliance with codes.
  • Inspect, repair, or replace wiring, equipment, switches, receptacles, and cord caps.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and instructions.
  • Construct, repair, and install structures using wood, plastic, fiberglass, drywall, and other materials.
  • Operate hand and power tools (chisels, planes, saws, drills, sanders) to assemble and finish work.
  • Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
  • Perform tasks at heights using stilts, ladders, scaffolding, or beams.
  • Verify work meets codes and specifications using levels, plumb bobs, and framing squares.
  • Build aquarium program theming, furniture, and structural elements (partitions, doors, windows, concrete forms).
  • Install conduit, pull wiring, and mount outlet/switch boxes.
  • Replace panes of glass, ceiling tiles, and doors; perform drywall repair.
  • Operate scissor lifts, pallet jacks, and forklifts safely.
  • Conduct basic plumbing (toilets, sinks) and HVAC repairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance procedures and track tools/inventory.
  • Use welding equipment as needed.
  • Install basic network cabling.
Required Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2+ years commercial maintenance experience or equivalent skills from other employment.
  • Must be familiar with current building codes.
  • Forklift certified.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Must be familiar with current OSHA regulations.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
Physical and Medical Requirements
  • Allergies related to animals or plants, which might interfere with ability to work, must be controlled by medications or protective equipment.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, as well as walk.
  • Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs, or crawl.
  • Ability to work in an environment that may be loud at times.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including occasional extreme hot or cold, and wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Ability to push or pull at minimum 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to work weekends, nights and holidays.
