Job summary

Birch Family Services in New York City is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Worker to keep our facilities clean, safe, and properly functioning across multiple sites. You will perform routine and preventive maintenance, handle repairs to fixtures, plumbing, electrical systems, and assist with capital improvement tasks.

The role requires hands-on experience, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and a valid NY driver's license.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Two or more years of building maintenance experience.
• Valid New York State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing and equipment repair or replacement.
• Performs preventive building maintenance duties such as caulking windows/doors and repairing/replacing broken components.
• Performs plumbing repairs (unclogging toilets/sinks, fixing leaks) and electrical repairs (changing bulbs, fixtures).
• Maintains cleanliness and safety; reports needs for repairs and coordinates with facilities team.
• Travels to Birch facilities and supply stores; purchases supplies and materials as needed.
• Steam cleans and shampoos carpets; trims and polishes floors; moves and sets up furniture as required.
• Ensures hazardous conditions are addressed promptly and supports general upkeep tasks.

Duties may include therepair of fixtures & equipment; the performance of routine maintenance; performing general cleaning andheavy-duty cleaning duties; notifying management of needs for repairs; and snow & debris removal fromwalkways, sidewalks and driveways.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*• Troubleshoots maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing and equipment repairor replacement.• Performs preventive building maintenance duties (i.e., caulks windows & doors, repairs/replacesbroken windows, etc.).• Performs plumbing repairs (i.e., unstopping toilets & sinks, fixing water leaks & leaking faucets, etc.)• Performs electrical repairs (i.e., changing light bulbs; replacing ballasts & light fixtures, etc.)• Maintenance assignments will include travel to & from various Birch facilities and supply stores (i.e.,Home Depot, Lowes, etc.)• Purchases supplies, equipment and materials necessary to complete projects.• Works with team members to complete maintenance and capital improvement tasks.• Assembles and moves furniture, hangs pictures and bulletin boards, moves and sets up tables & chairs,etc.)• Steam cleans & shampoos carpets; strips, seals and polishes floors• Repairs and replaces door knobs or locks, repairs door closures, patches holes in walls.• Paints interior and exterior surfaces.• Ensures that all hazardous conditions are addressed in a timely manner (i.e., snow removal; gatheringand removing trash from the premises; debris removal, etc.).• Performs other duties as requiredEducation• High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)Experience• Two (2) or more years of building maintenance experiencePhysical Requirements• Maintenance assignments involve moderate to heavy work in all types of weather.
