Job summary

Birch Family Services in New York, NY is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep our buildings clean, safe and orderly. You will perform repairs to fixtures and equipment, carry out routine maintenance, handle cleaning, and coordinate with management on repair needs.

Responsibilities include electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tasks; floor care; snow and debris removal; and moving furniture. A valid NY driver's license and 2+ years of maintenance experience are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Two or more years of building maintenance experience.
• Valid New York State driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoots maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing and equipment repair or replacement.
• Performs preventive building maintenance duties (caulks windows & doors, repairs/replaces broken windows, etc.).
• Plumbing repairs (i.e., unstopping toilets & sinks, fixing water leaks & leaking faucets, etc.).
• Electrical repairs (i.e., changing light bulbs; replacing ballasts & light fixtures, etc.).
• Maintenance assignments will include travel to & from various Birch facilities and supply stores (i.e., Home Depot, Lowes, etc.).
• Purchases supplies, equipment and materials necessary to complete projects.
• Works with team members to complete maintenance and capital improvement tasks.
• Assembles and moves furniture, hangs pictures and bulletin boards, moves and sets up tables & chairs, etc.)
• Steam cleans & shampoos carpets; strips, seals and polishes floors
• Repairs and replaces door knobs or locks, repairs door closures, patches holes in walls.
• Paints interior and exterior surfaces.
• Ensures that all hazardous conditions are addressed in a timely manner (i.e., snow removal; gathering and removing trash from the premises; debris removal, etc.).
• Performs other duties as required.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician maintains the building in a clean, orderly, safe condition. Duties may include the repair of fixtures & equipment; the performance of routine maintenance; performing general cleaning and heavy‑duty cleaning duties; notifying management of needs for repairs; and snow & debris removal from walkways, sidewalks and driveways.

Physical Requirements

• Maintenance assignments involve moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. There is a frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday.

• A valid New York State driver’s license.
