Smurfit Westrock is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Technician in New Lenox, Illinois. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of experience in troubleshooting industrial electrical control systems and strong knowledge of automated machinery. Qualifications

Job description

Electrical Maintenance Technician

The opportunity: Primary duties include providing safe and timely electrical support, preventative maintenance, installation, service, repair, troubleshooting and resolution of multiple operating machines within a manufacturing industrial environment. The ideal candidate will have mechanical and electrical experience, a familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics and have basic troubleshooting experience with proven ability of machine repair.

2nd or 3rd shift

What You Need to Succeed:

• 2–3 years of experience troubleshooting industrial electrical control systems, including diagnosing issues down to the component level.
• Strong operational knowledge of automated industrial machinery, including:
  • Motors (AC & DC)
  • Servos
  • Pumps (air and electric)
  • Drives
  • Relays
  • 3‑phase power systems
  • Communication devices
  • Industrial/electronic control systems
  • Power transmission systems
• Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot AC and DC drive systems.
• PLC troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, supported by strong practical mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience with basic 3‑phase motor control circuits, including installation and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with sensors, limit switches, and common industrial electrical components.
• Understanding of bearings and power transmission equipment.
• Basic welding skills (preferred but not required).
• Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently in a mature, professional manner.
• Flexibility to work varied hours and overtime when needed.
• High school diploma or equivalent, with military training or technical school certification preferred.
