Job summary

Smurfit Westrock in Nebraska is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to ensure production machinery runs efficiently and safely. You will perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot pneumatic, electrical, hydraulic, and boiler systems, and read blueprints to assemble and install equipment.

The role requires 2–3 years of electrical troubleshooting and at least 1 year of mechanical troubleshooting experience, with the ability to lift heavy loads and work varied shifts.

Qualifications

• Must have 2-3 years of successful electrical troubleshooting and repair experience on small machinery (lathe, drill press, welding equipment).
• Must have at least one full year of mechanical troubleshooting and repair experience.
• Able to commence and continue specific courses of action with urgency.
• Maintain positive relationships with plant management, supervisors, office, and operational employees.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to lift/push/pull 50-100 pounds multiple times daily.
• Willing to work all shifts as business needs fluctuate.
• Willingness to cross-train in other maintenance areas.
• Proven dependability and good attendance.

Responsibilities

• Work with Programmable Logic Controllers, AC/DC motors and controls.
• Read and interpret blueprints.
• Assemble, install and fabricate equipment (welding required).
• Work with steam and boiler controls and mechanical power drives.
• Assist support staff to maintain accurate inventory counts.
• Submit timely and accurate paperwork.
• Participate in Safety Reviews, Training and Audits.

Shift Schedule

1st Shift

• M-F 5:00 AM – 1:30 PM

Payrate: $27.00–$35.00/hour depending on Experience

Responsibilities

As Maintenance Mechanic you will

• Ensure production machinery is functioning correctly and efficiently
• Perform preventative maintenance on all machinery
• Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic, electrical, hydraulic, compressor, and vacuum systems
• Have a working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers, AC/DC motors and controls
• Ability to read and understand blueprints
• Assemble, install and fabricate equipment as needed (welding will be required)
• Ability to work with steam and boiler controls and mechanical power drives
• Ability to assist support staff to ensure inventory counts are accurate
• Ability to submit timely and accurate paperwork
• Participation in Safety Reviews, Safety Training, and Safety Audits under the direction of plant management
• Willingness to participate in a maintenance training program that is provided and required
• Must provide own tools (specialty tools provided by the Company)

Qualifications

• Proven experience demonstrating dependability and timeliness with assignments, tasks, and responsibilities
• History of excellent attendance is a must
• Excellent Computer Skills: Microsoft Office Suite

Education

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED is required
• An associate’s degree in electrical field is preferred, but not required
