Job summary

Matern Staffing is seeking a Maintenance Technician for a fire-retardant treated wood plant in Bowling Green, VA. You will use mechanical and electrical skills to troubleshoot, repair and support plant equipment, becoming a key player in safety and efficiency.

The contract-to-hire role runs on the 2nd shift, 4:00 pm–2:30 am, Monday–Friday with schedule flexibility based on production. You will maintain and repair pumps, conveyors, valves, hydraulic units, burners, electrical systems, PLCs, and

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 5 years of mechanical and electrical maintenance experience preferred.
• Strong math skills and basic computer proficiency.
• Good time management and prioritization skills.
• Effective communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair pumps, conveyors, valves, hydraulics, burners, and mobile equipment.
• Maintain and repair electrical systems including breaker boxes, sensors, PLCs, and lighting.
• Perform cutting, grinding and welding as needed.
• Complete work orders and promptly respond to equipment issues to minimize downtime.
• Follow preventative maintenance programs with accurate records.
• Install new equipment and run electrical wiring or piping as directed.
• Collaborate with teammates to resolve equipment challenges and share knowledge.

Job description

Matern Staffing is hiring a Maintenance Technician for a fire-retardant treated wood plant in Bowling Green, VA, where you\'ll help shape a culture of safety and environmental responsibility that supports the building industry.

When important equipment stops working, the Maintenance Technician becomes the hero! As a Maintenance Technician, you\'ll use your problem solving and knowledge of mechanical and electrical workings to detect, troubleshoot, support, and fix machines and equipment. You\'ll also supply strategic recommendations to improve process efficiency and output.

This is a contract-to-hire position with 2nd shift hours 4pm-2:30am, Monday thru Friday.

• $28.50/hr to $33.00/hr.

Schedule:

• 1st shift 7a top 3:30 p, Monday thru Friday with flexibility depending on production schedules

What You\'ll Do:

• Maintain and repair chemical transfer pumps, vacuum pumps, valves, conveyors, hydraulic units, burners, mobile equipment, to ensure reliable operation
• Maintain and repair electrical systems, including breaker boxes, power supplies, sensors, PLCs, and lighting, to ensure reliable operation
• Completes cutting, grinding and welding activities
• Completes work orders for issues with equipment
• Promptly responds to equipment and machine issues to minimize operational downtime
• Maintains and follows preventative maintenance programs with accurate record keeping
• Installs new equipment including running new electrical wire and/or piping as directed
• Collaborates with teammates to resolve equipment challenges and shares experiences through training

What You\'ll Need:

• High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) required
• Previous experience in mechanical and electrical maintenance required (5 years preferred)
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations
• Proactively approaches situations with excellent time management and prioritization skills
• Strong mathematical skills to help with quick and accurate calculations
• Strong computer skills (Google Drive, MS Office, word processing, email and spreadsheets)
• Strong attention to detail with great follow-through to ensure accuracy and execution
• Active listener who collaborates effectively with teammates, always ready to step in to help
• Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs+ and perform necessary physically demanding tasks as needed
