Job summary

Nucor Corporation in Los Angeles, CA is hiring an Industrial Mechanic to maintain and repair presses, motors, conveyors and production equipment. The role requires performing preventive maintenance, reading blueprints, and ensuring safety at all times.

Qualified candidates have 1 year of industrial mechanic experience or completed an accredited industrial technician program, with flexibility to work any shift.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience as an industrial mechanic in a manufacturing facility, or completion of an accredited industrial technician schooling program.
• Experience with equipment maintenance, technical understanding, and zeal.
• Familiarity with drafting and understanding blueprints and schematics.
• Must be able to work any shift as required, overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Maintain machinery by performing preventive maintenance on presses, motors, conveyors, and production equipment.
• Troubleshoot by observing machinery, listening for issues, and using precision instruments.
• Replace defective parts using hoists, cranes, and hand tools.
• Inspect parts and determine dimensional changes with the onsite machine shop.
• Adjust devices and control instruments using hand tools and levels.
• Help control downtime by coordinating preventive maintenance.
• Maintain inventories and inform supervisor of stock levels.
• Conserve resources by efficient use of tools and supplies.
• Ensure production and quality by keeping equipment running.
• Other duties as assigned.

Basic Job Functions

• Ensures machinery and mechanical equipment operation by completing preventive maintenance requirements on presses, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
• Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
• Determine the dimensional changes in the parts requirements by inspecting and using the onsite Machine Shop.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
• Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
• Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; informs Supervisor when removed from inventory.
• Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
• Maintains production and quality by ensuring the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• 1 year of experience as an industrial mechanic in a manufacturing facility, or completion of an accredited industrial technician schooling program.
• Experience with equipment maintenance, technical understanding, and zeal.
• Familiarity with drafting and understanding blueprints and schematics.
• Must be able to work any shift as required, overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2-3 years of experience as an industrial mechanic in a manufacturing facility.
• Industrial Electrical experience, a plus.
