Job summary

Nucor in the United States seeks an experienced Industrial Mechanic to maintain presses, motors, conveyors, and production equipment, following diagrams and manuals to keep lines running. The role emphasizes troubleshooting, part sourcing, and safe operation in a fast-paced fabrication environment.

You will inspect machines, perform preventive maintenance, and adjust components while preserving uptime and quality. Shift flexibility and a strong safety mindset are required for success.

Qualifications

• 1 year of experience as an industrial mechanic or completion of an accredited industrial technician program.
• Experience with equipment maintenance and technical understanding.
• Familiarity with drafting, blueprints and schematics.
• Ability to work any shift, overtime, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Maintains operation of presses, motors, conveyors and production machines by performing preventive maintenance.
• Diagnoses problems by observing machinery, using precision tools and testing instruments.
• Removes defective parts, disassembles devices and inspects components.
• Adjusts devices and control instruments to meet specifications.
• Keeps downtime low by coordinating with production and following maintenance procedures.
• Maintains inventory of parts and informs Supervisor when stock runs low.
• Ensures safety and quality during all maintenance activities.

Compensation: $28.48 - 32.96 per hour (based on experience), plus weekly production bonus.

Potential compensation with bonus: 0-50%; $42.72 - $49.55 per hour.

Basic Job Functions:

• Ensures machinery and mechanical equipment operation by completing preventive maintenance requirements on presses, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
• Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
• Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
• Determine the dimensional changes in the parts requirements by inspecting and using the onsite Machine Shop.
• Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
• Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
• Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; informs Supervisor when removed from inventory.
• Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
• Maintains production and quality by ensuring the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 1 year of experience as an industrial mechanic in a manufacturing facility, or completion of an accredited industrial technician schooling program.
• Experience with equipment maintenance, technical understanding, and zeal.
• Familiarity with drafting and understanding blueprints and schematics.
• Must be able to work any shift as required, overtime, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2-3 years of experience as an industrial mechanic in a manufacturing facility.
• Industrial Electrical experience, a plus.
