Job summary

Nucor is hiring a Maintenance Technician at our Indiana plant. The role focuses on preventive maintenance, repairs, and equipment optimization to support continuous production. Safety and teamwork are emphasized as essential daily practices.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform weekly preventative maintenance tasks and prioritize work with the Maintenance Supervisor.
• Repair, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC logic, and electrical issues.
• Inspect and maintain production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure high-quality operations.
• Order parts, develop maintenance plans, and manage small-scale projects.
• Respond to emergencies and coordinate with production teams to minimize downtime.

Basic Job Functions:

Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for preparing, planning, and prioritizing weekly preventative maintenance tasks across the manufacturing plant while also performing general facility maintenance. This role works closely with the Maintenance Supervisor to develop a strong understanding of production equipment and apply effective problem‑solving methods when responding to maintenance requests. The technician must be able to prioritize assignments, complete tasks efficiently, and remain available for emergency needs during the shift. Close collaboration with production teams is essential to minimize downtime and maintain high‑quality operations. Opportunity available for 1st and 2nd Shift.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide repair assessments, service equipment, and ensure all repairs are completed effectively and safely.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC logic, and hardware issues related to machinery and equipment.
• Perform routine and preventative maintenance on facility and production equipment.
• Research equipment upgrades and new purchases; prepare proposals, order parts, and develop plans for special maintenance projects.
• Participate in managing parts inventory, including identifying required parts and supplies.
• Respond to emergency and unplanned repair needs to support continuous production.
• Attend required internal and external training to maintain safe maintenance practices and obtain necessary equipment certifications.
• At least 2 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
• Basic computer skills, including the ability to use maintenance software, email, and digital documentation tools.

Preferences:

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products for documentation, reporting, and communication.
• Strong electrical background, including experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems.
• Experience operating heavy machinery beyond standard warehouse forklifts.
• Completion of a two‑year technical degree, ideally paired with industrial maintenance experience.
