Job summary

Tall Hat Foods is seeking a Maintenance Technician to oversee daily maintenance operations and implement a Preventative Maintenance program to minimize downtime. You will troubleshoot equipment, maintain records, and collaborate across departments while ensuring GMP and safety standards are met.

The role covers mechanical and electrical maintenance on food production machinery, building systems upkeep, and scheduling of corrective work under the Maintenance Manager.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of maintenance supervision or planning experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience in food processing or manufacturing is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills with cross‑functional teams.
  • GMPs, safety standards and good housekeeping practices are understood.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose malfunctions in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Direct and coordinate assembly, fabrication and installation to meet specs and standards.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities for optimum machine utilization.
  • Plan preventive and predictive maintenance with the Maintenance Manager.

MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations. Effectively implement and support a Preventative Maintenance (PM) program with a focus on decreasing production downtime. Analyze problems and interpret technical information necessary to make required repairs (troubleshooting of equipment issues). Complete all assigned work orders within the time allotted. Keep good records of all work assignments and communicate across all groups/departments. Able to identify required parts, current inventories, and to list parts required for reorder. Must abide by all company policies including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Personal Safety Standards and Food Safety Standards. The person will perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repairs on food production machinery. Duties will also include maintenance of the building and support equipment.

Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Diagnose malfunctions in electrical, electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment.
  • Direct and coordinate assembly, fabrication, and installation activities to ensure equipment and systems conform to engineering design and internal specifications and standards.
  • Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.
  • Recommends design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions or to improve safety, quality, or equipment operating parameters.
  • Interpret company policies to workers and enforce OSHA and company safety regulations.
  • Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
  • Conduct safety training and ensure compliance with all company policies, plant rules and regulations.
  • Responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring.
  • Assit the M aintenanace Manager in planning and scheduling corrective work to maximize crew utilization and effectiveness.
  • Use computers and associated software programs such as Word and Excel to plan maintenance activities and develop training documents.
  • Track metrics, performance, and efficiency of work scheduled using spreadsheets and graphs as well as documents in report format, PowerPoint slides, and on bulletin boards.
  • Read and comprehend technical manuals, service manuals, diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proactively work with Maintenance Manager to ensure predictive and preventative plans are uniform on like equipment.
  • Ensure production areas are maintained to current GMP standards.
  • Maintains equipment repair records in compliance with company policy.
  • Oversee and coordinate maintenance personnel who maintain and repair electrical, plumbing, ventilation, and other building systems.
  • Oversee projects assigned by the Maintenanace Manager.
  • Respond to calls from production immediately and answer emergency calls when off shift
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1–2 years of maintenance supervision or planning experience, ideally in food processing, packaging, or a similar manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working in food processing or manufacturing is a plus.
  • Ability to develop and maintain an organized maintenance library to support efficient repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Comfortable reading and understanding technical documents, engineering drawings, schematics, and equipment information.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to document repairs clearly and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with employees across different departments.
  • A practical, results-focused approach to troubleshooting, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to organize priorities, manage multiple projects or requests, and keep work moving efficiently.
  • Project management experience or skills are a plus.
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and a commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient production environment.
  • Hands-on maintenance knowledge gained through previous experience, training, or on-the-job learning.
  • HVAC and refrigeration experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Solid mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic troubleshooting abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, honest, and willing to take initiative.
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and other maintenance or business software.
  • Spanish-speaking/bilingual skills are a plus, but not required.

WORK SCHEDULE
  • Monday – Friday: 7am-3pm
  • Overtime required at times when approved by management
