Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to handle routine maintenance on equipment, buildings, and grounds within the Lakeland facility. Responsibilities include identifying defects, maintaining a clean work area, and complying with safety regulations to support manufacturing operations.

Applicants should have a high school or technical education with 3 years of factory maintenance experience, forklift certification, and safety training.

Qualifications

  • Must have completed high school or technical training with at least 3 years of factory maintenance experience.
  • Forklift license and basic safety training (lockout/tagout, HAZMAT) are required.
  • Prior manufacturing facility maintenance experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment, building and grounds as directed by the department manager.
  • Detects and reports defective materials or conditions.
  • Maintains clean and orderly work area and complies with safety regulations.
  • Performs prescribed preventive maintenance on machinery and facility grounds.
  • Present a professional tone to customers and vendors at all times.
  • Timely and accurate reporting for all required department documentation.
  • Maintain housekeeping per Golden Broom Program.
  • Participate in on-site or off-site training as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUMMARY: The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs work of routine difficulty related to equipment, building maintenance and construction; performs related work as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Performs typical maintenance tasks to support the assembly floor and the entire facility as directed by department manager.
  2. Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the department manager.
  3. Maintains work area and respective equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
  4. Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machinery and the building or grounds as directed.
  5. Present a professional tone and image at all times to customers and vendors.
  6. Responsible for the timely and accurate reporting for all required department documentation.
  7. Maintain housekeeping excellence in accordance with Golden Broom Program.
  8. Participates in scheduled training classes on site or off site as required.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • High school or technical school education and 3 years of factory related experience in a maintenance environment.
  • General safety, lockout/tagout, HAZMAT, forklift safety, electrostatic discharge awareness, foreign object damage awareness, and quality system awareness.
  • Prior work experience in a manufacturing facility.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Criminal background and drug screen check required for hire.
  • Forklift License.
TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to perform but not limited to the following skills: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical (assist the facilities electrician), machine repair, plant layout, painting, and janitorial.
  • Required to be familiar with and use all hand tools and power tools common to the skills listed and be well versed in the disciplines mentioned above.
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings, sketches, O.E.M. instructions and specifications.
  • Must feel comfortable with working in a team environment consisting of facility team members and outside contractors.
  • Required to use considerable judgment when performing and planning to perform his/her tasks.
  • Ability to effectively manage time.
MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE:
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
  • Safety Glasses required while performing certain tasks.
  • Exposed to a combination of normal office type environments, and shop floor environments.
  • Regularly exposed to dust, odors, oil, fumes and noise.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copier, fax machine, E-mail, etc.
