Job summary

Aerotek in La Porte, IN is hiring a Maintenance Technician to keep high-volume production lines running. Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot a wide range of production equipment (slitting machines, lasers, cut-to-length lines, water jets, stretching machines).
  • Diagnose and repair motors, sensors, drives, gearboxes, and conveyors for reliable operation.
  • Work with 3-phase 480V electrical systems, including rewiring motors and fixing faults.
  • Apply PLC troubleshooting as applicable to resolve control issues.
  • Perform fabrication work for projects (brackets, rollers).
  • Minimize downtime and support production targets.
  • Carry out repairs (hoses, belts, sensors, terminals).
  • Execute reactive maintenance and preventive maintenance as scheduled.
  • Support project work for equipment modifications and upgrades.
  • Read blueprints/technical docs for troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with teams on task priority and status.

Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This multi-craft Maintenance Technician role focuses on maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a variety of production equipment in a heavy manufacturing environment. The position requires strong mechanical and electrical skills, including work with 3-phase 480V systems, and involves both reactive and preventive maintenance to keep production lines operating at peak efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot a wide range of production equipment, including slitting machines, lasers, cut-to-length lines, water jets, and stretching machines.

  • Diagnose and repair issues involving motors, sensors, drives, gearboxes, and conveyors to ensure reliable and efficient operation.

  • Understand and work safely with 3-phase 480V electrical systems, including rewiring motors and addressing electrical faults.

  • Use programmable logic controller (PLC) troubleshooting skills to identify and resolve equipment control issues, where applicable.

  • Perform extensive fabrication work for project-based assignments, such as making brackets and rebuilding various types of rollers.

  • Focus on keeping production lines running to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.

  • Carry out common repairs, including fixing broken hoses, repairing or replacing belts, replacing sensors, and tightening or re-wiring electrical terminals.

  • Perform reactive maintenance as the primary daily activity, responding promptly to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions.

  • Conduct preventive maintenance (PMs) when not engaged in reactive repairs, following established schedules and procedures.

  • Support project work as assigned, including equipment modifications, upgrades, and improvements.

  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation to guide mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repairs.

  • Collaborate with production and other maintenance team members to prioritize tasks and communicate equipment status.

  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours maintenance needs as required.

Essential Skills
  • At least 3 years of experience working as a maintenance technician in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

  • Proven ability to troubleshoot both mechanical and electrical issues on production equipment.

  • Hands‑on experience with mechanical systems, including drives, gearboxes, conveyors, rollers, and related components.

  • Strong electrical maintenance skills, including experience with 3‑phase 480V systems and motor rewiring.

  • Demonstrated welding and fabrication skills for creating brackets, rebuilding rollers, and supporting project work.

  • Experience with mechanical troubleshooting and repair of equipment such as slitting machines, lasers, cut‑to‑length lines, water jets, and stretching machines or similar machinery.

  • Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting, including working with sensors, drives, and electrical terminals.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to support troubleshooting and repairs.

  • Knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repairing related components.

  • Capability to perform both reactive maintenance and preventive maintenance in a fast‑paced production setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience using PLCs for troubleshooting and diagnostics is highly desirable.

  • Background in heavy manufacturing environments is a plus.

  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance programs and documentation practices.

  • Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with production and maintenance teams.

  • Comfort working in a multi‑craft role that blends mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fabrication responsibilities.

Work Environment

The role is primarily on second shift, working Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., with openings specifically on this shift. The work involves hands‑on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and fabrication tasks in an industrial setting, including participation in an on‑call rotation. The environment is production‑oriented, with frequent reactive maintenance needs complemented by scheduled preventive maintenance and project work.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of La Porte, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $74880.00 - $74880.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.

$2/hr premium for 2nd and $1/hr for 3rd. Pay progression of $1/hr raise at 6 months, another $1/hr at 12 months, and $1 more at 24 months. Brings base rate to $30/hr after 24 months. Will get 2x pay for working Sundays. Will also be on an "on call" rotation. If on call, will get paid for minimum of 2 hours for "inconvenience".
