Job summary

Gardens At Paulding is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform routine upkeep of building systems in a healthcare environment. You will handle plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general repairs to keep the facility safe and well-maintained for residents and staff.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent with 1–2 years in maintenance; healthcare setting experience is preferred. On-call after hours and collaboration with staff are expected.

Qualifications

  • 1-2 years' building maintenance/repair experience.
  • Healthcare or long-term care setting preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
  • Good communication and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and building codes is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Inspect facility and grounds for maintenance needs and safety hazards.
  • Repair doors, windows, and furniture as needed.
  • Maintain records of maintenance activities, inspections, and servicing.
  • Respond to emergencies and be on-call after hours as needed.
  • Assist in facility renovations and special projects.

Job Shift: First Shift

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of building systems and equipment in a healthcare, long-term care, or assisted living facility. This role ensures the facility is safe, functional, and well-maintained for residents, staff, and visitors. The Maintenance Technician performs various tasks, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general repairs, to maintain the facility’s physical environment and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance and Repairs:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct inspections of the facility and grounds to identify maintenance needs, safety hazards, or areas requiring repair.
  • Perform carpentry tasks, such as fixing doors, windows, and furniture, as needed.
  • Assist with the upkeep of common areas, resident rooms, and facility grounds, ensuring they are clean and well-maintained.

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Implement and follow preventative maintenance schedules to ensure equipment and building systems operate efficiently and reliably.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair equipment to prevent breakdowns and prolong the life of facility systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and equipment servicing.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance tasks, including proper handling of tools, equipment, and chemicals.
  • Ensure that all maintenance work complies with local, state, and federal safety codes and standards.
  • Assist in maintaining fire safety systems, including alarms, extinguishers, and emergency lighting, ensuring they are in working order.
  • Report any safety hazards or building code violations to the Maintenance Supervisor or Director.

Emergency Repairs:

  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies, addressing issues such as power outages, leaks, equipment malfunctions, or structural repairs.
  • Be on-call for after-hours emergencies as needed to ensure the safety and well-being of residents and staff.

Inventory and Supplies:

  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining inventory levels of tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for maintenance tasks.
  • Notify the Maintenance Supervisor or Director when supplies need to be replenished or when equipment requires repair or replacement.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with the maintenance team, housekeeping staff, and other facility departments to ensure smooth operations and address maintenance concerns.
  • Communicate with residents, staff, and visitors in a courteous and respectful manner while performing maintenance duties.

Special Projects:

  • Assist in facility renovations, upgrades, and improvements, as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or Director.
  • Participate in setting up and breaking down for facility events or special activities, including moving furniture, setting up equipment, and other tasks.
Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. A technical certification in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or a related field is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in building maintenance or repair work. Experience in a healthcare or long-term care setting is preferred but not required.

Skills:

  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work well independently or as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and building codes is a plus.
