Job summary

Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC) seeks a reliable Maintenance Technician to perform general maintenance at HAC’s units across the Cape and at office locations, per supervision. Responsibilities include plumbing, electrical, locks, painting, light custodial tasks, and furniture assembly for shelter facilities.

The role requires heavy lifting (50 lbs+), comfort with ladders, and basic computer use. On-call nights and weekends are required, with mileage reimbursement and a valid driver’s

  • Able to multitask, work efficiently and independently.
  • Heavy lifting up to 50 lbs+ is required.
  • General understanding of electrical, plumbing & construction.
  • Valid driver’s license; must have own vehicle and tools.
  • Comfortable on a ladder.
  • Comfort with computers (email and work order system).
  • Available for night and weekend on-call, emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor plumbing repairs (clogs, leaks).
  • Handle minor electrical tasks (replace outlets/switches).
  • Change locks.
  • Patch walls, repair and paint.
  • Light custodial work and cleaning prep for painting.
  • Assemble furniture at shelter facilities.
  • General construction tasks as needed.
  • Light snow shoveling.

Job description

Summary/Objective

Perform general maintenance tasks at HAC’s units across the Cape as well as some maintenance at our office locations as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.

Essential Functions
  • Minor plumbing repairs (clogs, repair leaks)
  • Minor electrical (replacing an outlet or switch)
  • Changing locks
  • Wall patching/repair and painting
  • Light custodial work (i.e. cleaning walls to prep for painting, organizing/cleaning maintenance shop)
  • Assembly of furniture at shelter facilities
Additional Duties
  • General construction tasks as needed
  • Light snow shoveling
Required Qualifications, Education, And Experience
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently and independently
  • Heavy lifting required (50 lbs+)
  • General understanding of electric, plumbing & construction
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have own vehicle (mileage reimbursement provided) and tools
  • Must be comfortable on a ladder
  • Comfort level with working in a diverse group of facilities and ability to treat others with respect at all times
  • Comfort level with computers (email and work order system)
  • Ability to be available night and weekends for on-call schedule and emergencies
Preferred Qualifications, Education, And Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in general maintenance
  • Home improvement license
  • Construction license/certificate
  • Strongly prefer LICENSED plumber or electrician, Construction Supervisor license helpful

Work Environment
  • The functions of this role are conducted at residential units, shelter facilities, scatter-site shelter units and office locations.
Hours of Work
  • This role is paid on an hourly basis.
  • The hours of work for this position are Monday thru Friday, with night and weekend on-call schedule and emergencies.
