Job summary

Greenville County Commission On Alcohol & Drug Abuse is seeking a Maintenance Technician to manage daily operation of Phoenix Center facilities, including HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, painting and sheetrock. Role requires lifting 50–70 lbs, on‑call availability, and independent judgment.

Minimum HS diploma with 3–5 years facility maintenance experience; AS degree in a technical field preferred. Competitive benefits and 37.5 hour work week are offered.

Job Overview

Under the general supervision of the Operations Coordinator, the Maintenance Technician will serve as one of the persons responsible for the maintenance and daily operation of both the interior and exterior of Phoenix Center facilities, including but not limited to HVAC & plumbing, minor carpentry repairs, sheetrock repair/replacement, general building maintenance, painting, vehicle preventative maintenance and other maintenance tasks as assigned. The overall goal of this position is to keep the Phoenix Center facilities safe and in optimum operational condition both physically and aesthetically in an efficient and cost effective manner. It does require on call availability for occasional emergency maintenance and operations related issues.

This position requires the ability to lift 50–70 lbs., reach, grasp, bend, and perform repetitive motions. It requires vocal communication with supervisors and co‑workers, hearing to perceive spoken information, visual acuity to prepare and analyze written or computer data, determine accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observe surroundings. The Maintenance Technician must be able to think and work independently and make sound judgment calls. The worker may be subjected to adverse environmental conditions.

Job Duties
  • Schedules and performs the maintenance of HVAC systems, changing filters and identifies any operational issues regarding the units.
  • Schedules and performs inspections and preventative maintenance on agency vehicles and schedules routine maintenance with the county garage or other vehicle services provider.
  • Schedules and performs maintenance duties on agency facilities including but not limited to basic plumbing, basic carpentry, painting, sheetrock repair, as well as other maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for prioritizing and completing submitted work orders in a timely manner.
  • Performs monthly safety inspections of all facilities and documents findings with recommendations to correct any identified problem areas, and assists with monthly safety drills.
  • Tracks expenditures as needed for accounting compliance.
  • Performs 24/7 on‑call emergency services as required.
  • Pick‑up and/or delivery Agency’s interoffice mail, meals, supplies, and equipment as needed.
  • Serves on Commission committee(s) as needed.
  • Actively supports a trauma‑informed and responsive work environment as demonstrated in the five core values of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written expression.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform minor automotive maintenance, repair, and inspections.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform daily healthcare facilities maintenance within regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and other agencies.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Must have and be able to maintain a valid driver’s license and provide proof of liability insurance coverage.
Qualifications
  • Minimum HS Diploma with 3–5 years experience in general facility maintenance.
  • AS degree in a technical skills program, such as HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing or Industrial Maintenance preferred.
  • Experience working in a health care environment a plus.
