Maintenance Technician

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, a Maintenance Technician A is responsible for routine preventative maintenance and downtime activities for the facility and equipment. The technician must work safely and independently, collaborating with fellow maintenance personnel and production staff as needed. They must develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the process, equipment, controls, maintenance tasks, and store areas. Effective communication with coworkers, production crews, maintenance staff, and supervision is essential. The technician will also log and record maintenance activities and parts checkouts, and work with engineering on assigned projects.

Shift: 2nd shift or 3rd shift

Essential Job Functions

• Maintain a positive attitude and uphold Company Core Values.
• Follow plant safety rules and demonstrate common sense in safety practices.
• Properly use power hand tools such as drills, grinders, and impact tools.
• Use electrical volt/ohm meters accurately.
• Perform basic carpentry skills.
• Carry out routine and non-routine tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
• Maintain a willingness to learn through work habits, instruction manuals, courses, and educational programs.
• Enter data daily regarding work logs, equipment logs, and parts used or needed.
• Work any shift and overtime as required, including call-outs.
• Maintain steam system equipment and water treatment through sampling and testing.
• Work independently and lead or mentor Maintenance Technicians B and C.
• Act as supervisor in the absence of the Maintenance Manager when needed.

Requirements

• Intermediate knowledge of blueprint and schematic reading.
• Intermediate knowledge of plumbing (copper, black iron, steel, PVC).
• Intermediate troubleshooting skills for pneumatic, hydraulic devices, and steam boilers.
• Advanced ability to install electrical conduit and wiring.
• Intermediate water treatment testing knowledge.
• Intermediate use of milling machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, and pipe threading machines.
• Knowledge of lubrication, forklift operation, and repair.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Intermediate computer skills.
• Knowledge of safe work practices, PPE, LOTO, confined space, and hot work procedures.
• Advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical circuits, control systems, and low/high-pressure boilers and steam systems.
• Journeyman Mechanical or Electrical certification, or equivalent training.
• Welding certification is preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform physical activities such as standing, pushing, pulling, bending, and climbing during an 8-10 hour shift.
