Job summary

Job description

The Elmhurst YMCA is seeking to add a full-time Maintenance Technician to preserve the good condition and functionality of the facility. Responsibilities include performing maintenance tasks such as painting, assisting with installations, landscaping, and other tasks as needed.

Pay rate for this position is $22-$25 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Survey buildings and repair mechanical systems to ensure consistency with health and safety standards
• Perform maintenance of electrical systems (replace light bulbs and sockets, clean and repair circuit breaker panels, etc.)
• Assist in the setup of ventilation, refrigeration, and other systems and conduct repairs when necessary
• Maintain heating and plumbing systems to ensure functionality
• Inspect alarm systems (fire, protection) and schedule repairs when needed
• Perform manual repairs when necessary (fix locks, replace windows, etc.)
• Undertake pest control activities such as spraying insecticide
• Conduct general upkeep procedures (e.g., landscaping) and other tasks as assigned (painting, carpentry, etc.)
• Assist in budget preparation and ensure it is followed

Skills / Requirements

• Proven experience as a maintenance technician, or minimum 2 years of working experience using hand and power tools
• Continuous learner who leverages opportunities for learning and applies new knowledge and skills
• Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and other systems
• Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
• Manual dexterity and problem‑solving skills
• Good physical condition and strength with a willingness to work overtime
• High school diploma or equivalent; certificate in HVAC, building maintenance technology, or relevant field is a plus
• Demonstrates evidence of YMCA Leader competencies in previous experience or practice
• Meet physical qualifications required as outlined in the job description, including visual acuity
• Ability to travel locally in the Chicagoland area with a valid driver’s license
• Open flexibility as shift schedules will vary to meet facility hours of operation – evenings and weekends apply
• This is a Union position
