Job summary

Randstad USA is hiring a Maintenance Technician for a fast-paced food production facility in the Chicago area. The role focuses on preventative maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and keeping plant operations safe and efficient.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years in industrial plant maintenance (food industry preferred) with knowledge of 3-phase motor controls, AC/DC drives, and PLC systems. Shift flexibility and ability to lift up to 60 lbs are required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in industrial plant maintenance (food industry preferred).
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Strong understanding of 3-phase motor controls, AC/DC drives, and PLC-based systems.
• Welding and fabrication experience highly preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced production environment with minimal supervision.
• Able to lift/move up to 60 lbs and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
• Must be flexible to work weekends or extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair production, packaging, processing, and facility equipment.
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency breakdown repairs.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot motors, starters, relays, sensors, contactors, and AC/DC drives.
• Troubleshoot 3-phase electrical systems and motor controls.
• Perform basic to advanced PLC troubleshooting, depending on technician level.
• Read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, manuals, and work orders.
• Repair bearings, gearboxes, motors, pumps, cylinders, conveyors, and related equipment.
• Perform equipment rebuilds, adjustments, installations, and changeouts.
• Complete maintenance documentation and work orders.
• Support welding and fabrication projects as needed.
• Identify root causes of equipment failures and help prevent recurring downtime.
• Follow all GMP, food safety, LOTO, and plant safety procedures.
• Communicate equipment conditions and repairs with Production and Maintenance leadership.

Maintenance Technician | Preventative Maintenance & Troubleshooting (Support plant operations through electrical, mechanical, and facilities maintenance in a fast-paced food production environment.)

Location: Carol Stream, Des Planes, Bolingbrook, Geneva, IL

Shifts Available: 1st Shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM, 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM (shift differential offered), 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM (shift differential offered)

Pay: $27.00 - $34.50/hr+ based on shift and experience

Ideal candidates have food industry experience, are strong problem-solvers, and can work independently.

Qualifications & Skills

• OR currently pursuing a 2-year trades degree with hands-on maintenance exposure
• High school diploma or GED required
