Job summary

POAH Communities is hiring a Maintenance Technician for Warren Ashland Apartments in Chicago. The role requires hands-on maintenance leadership at a 75-unit property completed in 2021, serving a mix of affordable and market-rate renters.

Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of apartment maintenance experience, a High School diploma or GED, and a valid driver's license. HVAC cert is preferred. Flexible schedule including weekends/on-call may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, secure, and comfortable living environment for residents and staff.
  • Schedule and perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Diagnose and perform routine maintenance/repairs.
  • Ensure all make-ready repairs and services are completed.
  • Inspect and coordinate make-ready repairs and services.
  • Keep grounds tidy; rake, sweep, shovel as needed.

About The Role

POAH Communities is seeking a highly qualified individual to serve as Maintenance Technician. This individual will be a bright and dynamic leader with hands-on experience. Warren Ashland Apartments, located next door to Harvest Commons, is a 75-unit, new-construction property completed in 2021 offering a mix of affordable apartments serving very low-income people as well as moderate-income and market-rate renters. They’re located in Chicago’s bustling Near West Side at 1519 and 1533 W. Warren Blvd. respectively and comprise 164 mixed-income apartments. The two properties were developed and previously owned by Heartland Housing, Inc., (a nonprofit developer/housing provider/social services nonprofit) that ceased operations after falling into financial distress. Heartland’s portfolio of Chicago and Wisconsin properties went into receivership in 2023, and this acquisition represents the preservation of two of the largest of those assets. About Your Impact
  • Insuring a safe, secure and comfortable living environment for residents, visitors and staff.
  • Being knowledgeable of pertinent laws and EPA and OSHA regulations.
  • Being aware of the condition of apartment property throughout the community and immediately initiate action to correct unsafe conditions.
  • Scheduling and performing routine preventative maintenance on all appropriate equipment.
  • Performing work area clean-up and safety related duties.
  • Diagnosing and perform minor and routine maintenance/repairs.
  • Insuring all make-ready repairs and services are completed.
  • Inspecting and helping coordinate all needed make-ready repairs and services.
  • Assisting in keeping grounds neat and clean. Rake, sweep, shovel as necessary.
About You
  • Must have at least 1 year experience in apartment maintenance.
  • High School diploma or GED required. HVAC certification preferred.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and automobile insurance coverage as use of personal vehicle may be required.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule with weekends and on-call basis as necessary.
  • Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the safe use and maintenance of hand tools, power tools, user-moved aids, mechanical equipment, measuring devices.
  • Must be able to perform the following duties 66-100% of the time: be on feet, bend/stoop/squat/kneel, climb stairs, push/pull, reach above shoulder, climb ladders, grasp/grip/turn, finger dexterity, lift/carry up to 75lbs, be able to read and understand maintenance forms and warning labels.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
