Job summary

VALLEY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to repair and maintain the buildings and grounds across VCS campuses in Cerritos, CA. The role includes carpentry, plumbing, electrical tasks, and daily cleaning, with lifting requirements and weekend/overtime as needed.

The successful candidate will perform duties on a school site, ensure safety standards, and operate maintenance equipment.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years performing facilities maintenance duties, preferably on a school campus.
• Regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs., walk, stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and climb for extended periods.
• Communicate in English sufficiently to safely perform essential duties and comply with safety procedures.

• Repair and maintain the buildings and grounds on all VCS campuses
• Repair and/or install door locks, light bulbs, drinking fountains/faucets, cabinet knobs, etc.
• Perform carpentry and painting duties
• Mow, trim, and fertilize lawns; prune trees and shrubs
• Perform simple electrical and plumbing repairs
• Cleaning, fueling, and maintenance of school buses and other equipment
• Event setups/teardowns (chairs, tables, etc.)
• Cleaning and disinfecting classrooms, hallways, common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor grounds
• Crossing Guard duties as assigned
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Salary Range: $18.93 - $29.11 hourly

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain the buildings and grounds on all VCS campuses
• Repair and/or install door locks, light bulbs, drinking fountains/faucets, cabinet knobs, etc.
• Perform carpentry and painting duties
• Mow, trim, and fertilize lawns; prune trees and shrubs
• Perform simple electrical and plumbing repairs
• Cleaning, fueling, and maintenance of school buses and other equipment
• Event setups/teardowns (chairs, tables, etc.)
• Cleaning and disinfecting classrooms, hallways, common areas, bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoor grounds
• Perform heavy manual labor - must be able to lift and carry 50+ pounds regularly
• Crossing Guard duties as assigned
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years performing facilities maintenance duties, preferably on a school campus
• Consistent punctuality, prepared to perform duties (required)
• Operate light motorized equipment and appropriate hand tools
• Valid CA driver's license
• Ability to perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs and installations
• Ability to perform carpentry and painting duties
• Work effectively as part of a team or individually
• Conduct oneself in a manner consistent with Christian values of the school community
• Regularly lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs., walk, stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and climb for extended periods
• Work assigned holidays, weekends, evenings, and overtime as needed
• Communicate in English sufficiently to safely perform essential duties and comply with safety procedures
• Operate equipment such as floor polishing and scrubbing machines, wall washing machines, steam shampooers, vacuum cleaners, yard vacuums, golf cart, lawn mower/edger, and power sweepers
• Knowledge of safety guidelines when working with chemical cleaners and cleaning equipment
• Physically perform duties with or without accommodations
