Job summary

St Catherine of Siena Inc in Caldwell, NJ is seeking a dependable Maintenance Technician to maintain a safe, clean, and fully operational environment for residents, staff and visitors.

The ideal candidate will perform routine and preventive maintenance, inspect systems, respond to emergencies, troubleshoot and repair building issues, and coordinate with outside vendors while following infection-control and OSHA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with building maintenance, repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general building repair.
  • Ability to use common hand and power tools safely.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, vendors and supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations.

  • Maintain resident rooms, common areas, offices, utility areas, and exterior areas.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify safety hazards and maintenance needs.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and service vendors when specialized repairs are required.
  • Follow facility policies, infection-control procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable regulations.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a dependable and experienced Maintenance Technician to join our skilled nursing facility team. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, comfortable, and fully operational environment for our residents, staff, and visitors.

Candidates for employment must identify with, share in and display a commitment to the mission, philosophy and values of the Sisters of St. Dominic.

The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with building maintenance, repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting and will understand the importance of working safely and respectfully in a healthcare environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Perform routine and preventive maintenance throughout the facility.

Inspect and maintain plumbing, electrical, HVAC, lighting, doors, locks, flooring, walls, ceilings, and other building systems. High pressure/Low pressure black seal boilers license a plus.

Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergency situations.

Troubleshoot equipment and building problems and complete repairs when appropriate.

Perform painting, patching, carpentry, minor plumbing, and general repairs.

Maintain resident rooms, common areas, offices, utility areas, and exterior areas.

Conduct regular inspections to identify safety hazards and maintenance needs.

Assist with fire and life‑safety equipment inspections and testing as assigned.

Maintain records of inspections, repairs, work orders, and preventive maintenance activities.

Assist with emergency preparedness and facility emergency procedures.

Coordinate with outside contractors and service vendors when specialized repairs are required.

Maintain maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies in an organized and safe manner.

Follow all facility policies, infection‑control procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable federal and New Jersey regulations.

Protect resident privacy and dignity while working in resident care areas.

Respond to after‑hours maintenance emergencies as required by the facility.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance or Administrator.

Requirements

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Minimum:

2 years of general building maintenance or related experience preferred.

Skilled nursing, nursing home, assisted living, hospital, healthcare, or other institutional maintenance experience is a plus.

Working knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and general building repair.

Ability to use common hand and power tools safely.

Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, staff, vendors, and supervisors.

Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple maintenance requests.

Must be dependable, organized, and able to respond appropriately to emergencies.

Displays professional conduct with Sisters, staff and the general public.

Physical Requirements:

The employee must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb stairs/ladders, reach, and lift or carry maintenance materials and equipment as required. The position may involve working in mechanical rooms, outdoors, and in varying temperatures
