Job summary

SanStone Health & Rehabilitation is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the Maintenance Director in keeping a safe, clean, and functional environment for residents and staff. The role covers routine maintenance, repairs, and grounds upkeep in a skilled nursing setting.

You will perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs, respond to requests, and help maintain safety systems while following infection-control and facility policies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in building maintenance or related field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, painting, and general building repairs.
  • Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions, maintenance procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills.
  • Previous healthcare maintenance experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with routine maintenance and repair of the facility, including resident rooms, common areas, offices, bathrooms.
  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general repair tasks.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and resident-room repair needs.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and inspections of equipment and building systems.
  • Help maintain heating, cooling, ventilation, water, lighting, and other facility systems.
  • Inspect the building and grounds for safety hazards and report problems to the Maintenance Director.
  • Assist with maintaining exterior grounds, walkways, entrances, parking areas, and landscaping as needed.
  • Help ensure emergency equipment, exit routes, doors, alarms, and other safety-related items are maintained.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work, inspections, and maintenance requests as directed.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and other materials when needed.
  • Maintain an organized and safe maintenance shop and properly store tools and supplies.
  • Follow infection-prevention and control practices when performing work in resident-care areas.
  • Follow OSHA, facility safety policies, fire-safety procedures, and other applicable regulations and standards.
  • Respect resident privacy, dignity, personal property, and confidentiality at all times.
  • Respond to emergencies and facility needs outside of routine duties when assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director or Administrator.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Director in maintaining a safe, clean, functional, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This position assists with routine building maintenance, repairs, preventative maintenance, grounds upkeep, and general facility needs while following all applicable safety, infection-control, and skilled nursing facility requirements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist with routine maintenance and repair of the facility, including resident rooms, common areas, offices, bathrooms, and mechanical areas.
  • Perform basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall, and general repair tasks within the scope of training and authorization.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and resident-room repair needs.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance programs and scheduled inspections of equipment and building systems.
  • Help maintain heating, cooling, ventilation, water, lighting, and other facility systems.
  • Inspect the building and grounds for safety hazards, damage, or maintenance concerns and report problems to the Maintenance Director.
  • Assist with maintaining exterior grounds, walkways, entrances, parking areas, and landscaping as needed.
  • Help ensure emergency equipment, exit routes, doors, alarms, and other safety-related items are maintained and deficiencies are reported promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed work, inspections, and maintenance requests as directed.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in confined spaces and areas with varying temperatures when necessary.
  • Ability to safely perform assigned maintenance duties while working around residents, staff, and visitors.
Work Environment

The Maintenance Assistant works throughout the skilled nursing facility, including resident rooms, common areas, mechanical spaces, storage areas, and outdoor grounds. The position may involve exposure to noise, dust, cleaning products, temperature variations, and other conditions normally associated with building maintenance.
