Job summary

Lumbermen’s in Grand Rapids, MI is seeking a Maintenance Technician II to perform preventative maintenance and repairs on woodworking machinery. You will troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs, and electrical systems from 120V to 480V, and coordinate with vendors to keep production safe and on schedule.

Qualifications

  • Troubleshoot and install 24V DC low-voltage controls and sensors.
  • Diagnose sensors and control circuit issues in systems.
  • Maintain Arc Flash certification and PPE safety practices.
  • Support timely, efficient manufacturing and on-time delivery.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and teamwork.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician II will be responsible for preventative maintenance and repairs on machinery and acting as a liaison with vendors. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) faults, including basic VFD replacement and high- and low-voltage troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrating a working knowledge of PLC operation and the ability to explain how PLCs interact with equipment and controls.
  • Troubleshooting, installing, and repairing single-phase and three-phase electrical systems ranging from 120V to 480V, including outlets, lighting, switches, and related components.
  • Safely identify electrical voltages using a multimeter and understand the differences between single-phase and three-phase systems.
  • Troubleshooting and installing 24V DC low-voltage controls, including machine sensors, power supplies, safety relays, PLCs, and VFD-related components.
  • Diagnosing sensors and control circuit issues by tracing signals through the system to identify the source of equipment failures.
  • Maintaining current Arc Flash certification and following required electrical safety practices, including the proper use of PPE and barrier equipment when entering electrical panels.
  • Supporting manufacturing needs in a timely and efficient manner to help ensure on-time delivery to customers
  • Support the continuous improvement of culture through great interpersonal abilities, being a team player and displaying initiative.

This position offers a $300 annual clothing allowance to offset costs for work apparel, protective footwear, and PPE.

  • Ability to read electrical wiring schematics
  • Experience performing maintenance on heavy woodworking machinery (CNC, lineal edgebander, etc)
  • Working knowledge of CNCs, edgebanders, and panel saws
  • High voltage troubleshooting and repair (110,220,208,277,480)
  • Low voltage DC troubleshooting and repair
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs
  • Must be able to drive an industrial fork lift (training is available)
