A maintenance technician for a welding company inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, and fabricates industrial welding machinery, shop equipment, and facility systems to minimize downtime and ensure safety compliance
Job Title
Maintenance Technician - Welding & Industrial Equipment
Role Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for keeping all shop machinery, fabrication tools, and facility systems in peak operating condition. This role combines general industrial maintenance with hands‑on welding, metal fabrication, and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on welding power sources (MIG, TIG, Stick/SMAW), plasma cutters, positioners, bridge cranes, and shop machinery.
- Welding & Fabrication: Fabricate, repair, and modify structural supports, safety guards, handrails, fixtures, and replacement parts using various welding and metalworking processes.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical failures. Replace worn or broken components like motors, bearings, belts, and valves.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, arc‑flash guidelines, and personal protective equipment (PPE) rules. Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant shop floor.
- Documentation & Inventory: Log completed maintenance tasks, track equipment history using a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System), and monitor spare parts and consumable inventory.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical school certificate or associate degree in industrial maintenance or welding technology is strongly preferred.
- Experience: 2 to 5 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing, fabrication, or welding shop environment.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in multiple welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick, Flux-Core).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, schematics, and welding procedure specifications (WPS).
- Strong mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic aptitude.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting skills (low voltage and 3-phase power safety).
- Certifications: LOTO certification and arc‑flash safety training required; AWS or millwright/electrician certifications are a plus.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
- Ability to stand, bend, stoop, and work in awkward or confined positions.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50-75 lbs) and operate heavy equipment (forklifts, overhead cranes).
- Exposure to shop environments with noise, heat, sparks, and fumes (mitigated by proper safety gear).
