Job summary

Pittsburgh Glass Works in Pennsylvania seeks a Maintenance Technician to support the Maintenance Department, Engineering, Production and Quality Control in resolving equipment or process problems with immediate or developmental impact. The incumbent will assist the Maintenance Supervisor with coordination, design, troubleshooting, and training.

A strong background in PLCs, robotics, electronics and electrical drives is required, with ability to read schematics, write work orders, and train crews

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; technical degree preferred in Industrial Maintenance or related area.
  • Two years of maintenance technician or industrial electrician experience required; five years preferred.
  • Must possess strong PLC and robotics programming knowledge and plant electrical understanding.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical assistance to Maintenance, Engineering, Production and Quality Control to resolve equipment or process problems.
  • Write work orders and procedures to correct malfunctions or improve equipment and processes.
  • Train Maintenance and Production staff on new or modified equipment.
  • Assist in determining new products and equipment to test and evaluate.
  • Coordinate with supervisor for oversight, scheduling and problem resolution.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of plant equipment and processes.

Job description

Job Summary:

The incumbent works as a member of the Maintenance Department and provides technical assistance to Maintenance, Engineering, Production and Quality Control Departments in resolving equipment or process problems of an immediate or developmental nature. Assist the Maintenance Supervisor with coordination, job oversight, work assignment, design, engineering, technical troubleshooting, training, problem analysis and programming as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides technical assistance to Maintenance in resolving day-to-day maintenance or production problems involving production equipment. Maintains an up-to-date basic knowledge of all plant equipment and processes as each area is closely dependent upon the other.
  • Investigate equipment development problems and propose solutions. Initiates method of accomplishing solutions if approved by the Maintenance Supervisor. Provides input to others also assigned to accomplish solution.
  • Writes work orders and procedures as required to correct malfunctions or improve equipment or processes, both on the short and long-term range.
  • Provides and assists with technical training to Maintenance and Production employees in the use of new or modified equipment within specific areas of accountability. Trains Maintenance Technicians 2 & 3 on plant technologies; PLS's, Servo's, Robotics, AC Drives, etc.
  • Works with Maintenance, Engineering, Production and Purchasing to determine new products and equipment to be tested. Help establish parameters for evaluating new products and equipment and assist in the actual testing.
  • Recommends spare parts, instrumentation and supplies, etc., as necessary. Advise the Storeroom Supervisor on stock levels. Recommends stores additions and reductions to maintain proper inventory of parts and supplies used in specific areas of accountability.
  • May specify, design or program maintenance related items. Assists in determining standards for equipment, components, design, and programming. Keeps software, parts, and documentation up to date.
  • Perform all general maintenance work as assigned. Participate in Maintenance, PIT, and other plant teams and meetings pertinent to areas of accountability.
Qualifications:
  • The incumbent must possess excellent demonstrated technical skills and knowledge in the maintenance of glass fabricating equipment including quality and safety awareness.
  • Demonstrate skills with PLC and robotics programming, computer proficiency, machine electronics and mechanical, schematics and drawing reading, pneumatics, instrumentation, electric drives, and plant power systems.
  • The incumbent must be able to work and communicate effectively with employees at all levels within the plant organization and with PGW employees, customers and suppliers outside of Works #27 and be knowledgeable of plant security and confidentiality policies.
  • The incumbent must be self‑motivated, reliable, and able to work productively and efficiently with minimum supervision.
  • Must be available for call‑ins on shifts or weekends to assist with technical problems.
  • Assigns and provides job oversight when the maintenance supervisor is not in the plant.
Education / Experience:
  • High School degree required. Two (2) year technical degree in Industrial Maintenance or related area preferred.
  • Two (2) years of previous maintenance technician, industrial electrician or related experience required. Five (5) years of experience preferred.
Physical Requirements, Safety and Work Environment:
  1. Must be able to work a rotating day/night schedule.
  2. Must be able to safely operate a forklift.
  3. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  4. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  5. Associate must follow posted security procedures at all times while in the building.
  6. Must follow all PPE requirements.
