Job description

Maintenance Tech – Military Flight Controls Division

As a member of the Military Flight Controls Division (MFCD), you will perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul tasks on complex machine tools, precision equipment, and hazardous materials handling in support of aircraft flight control systems.

Responsibilities
  • Work from manufacturer specs and engineering data to set up, calibrate, adjust, and troubleshoot non‑conforming machine tools such as mills, lathes, shapers, planners, and jig bores.
  • Conduct test runs, analyze, locate, and repair malfunctions in solid‑state analog and digital control systems.
  • Maintain standard and high‑precision machine tools, performing major repairs that require accurate alignment and complex assembly.
  • Develop specialized machine tools by designing, fabricating, and constructing them from design data, sketches, and verbal instructions.
  • Train machinists, production personnel, and others on N/C machine principles and operational characteristics.
  • Relocate production machinery, install air and water lines, align machines for production, and adjust settings.
  • Design, construct, install, maintain, repair, and overhaul test stands, fixtures, and related hydraulic equipment.
  • Operate arc and acetylene welding equipment, and calibrate new or rebuilt equipment after installation.
  • Survey shops to diagnose and fix electrical malfunctions and deficiencies.
  • Install and maintain complete electrical wiring and equipment in mobile units, including transformer banks, switchboards, power panels, and related devices.
  • Plan routes for conduit lines, estimate job times, and list required materials.
  • Use precision test equipment and coordinate with computer software to create reports and spreadsheets.
  • Schedule and coordinate work orders and determine manpower requirements.
  • Hazardous Material Technician tasks:
    • Coordinate purchase, inventory, delivery, and pickup of hazardous materials; maintain on‑site chemical inventory.
    • Assist with chemical spill cleanup.
    • Package, label, store, and schedule pickup of hazardous waste for off‑site disposal.
    • Maintain accurate records of hazardous waste shipments.
    • Initiate compliance inspections and provide technical assistance on hazardous material compliance and safe practices.
    • Perform other related responsibilities.
Qualifications
  • Seven years of related maintenance experience or proven ability to perform described responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in pump and valve overhaul procedures, especially aerospace‑related equipment.
  • Ability to work from schematics, blueprints, engineering drawings, and machine tool testing procedures.

  • Knowledge of electronic theory as applied to N/C and standard machines, mechanical principles, machining mathematics, and properties of metals.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic technology, including pumps, cylinders, accumulators, filters, and piping fabrication.
  • Knowledge of chemicals and their characteristics.
  • Computer skills to operate programs, create reports, and maintain spreadsheets.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Forklift operator certification may be required.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay Range: $31.1/hr to $46.7/hr
