Job summary

J&O Plastics, a leading manufacturer of quality custom injection molding, seeks an Automation Machine Builder to join the Automation Engineering team on the shop floor. You will build and modify automation systems, perform mechanical assembly, read drawings, and assist with integration and installation.

The role requires hands-on skills with hand/power tools, basic electrical wiring, and the ability to read part drawings.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands-on mechanical experience, preferably with automated systems.
• Demonstrated ability to build and troubleshoot complex mechanical equipment.
• Experience with measuring tools (tape measures, calipers, micrometers).
• Ability to read and interpret part drawings, assembly drawings and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with pneumatic circuits and components.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Ability to work independently and with engineers/technicians.

Automation Machine Builder Job Description

The Automation Machine Builder position is a hands‑on role within the Automation Engineering team. In this position, you will be working on the integration floor to build and modify automation systems and components. This includes mechanical assembly, pneumatic assembly, basic electrical wiring, integration, troubleshooting and installation.

Ideal candidates will be very comfortable working with their hands. They should be proficient in using hand tools, power tools and basic machinery (drill presses, bandsaws, etc.) to accomplish goals. They must be able to read part drawings and follow instructions. They may occasionally be asked to fabricate simple fixtures or modify tooling with little guidance. They should have an understanding of an automation system and how different parts of the system work together (mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, etc.)

Automation Machine Builder Key Responsibilities

• Ability to work independently, while also being able to collaborate with engineers and technicians

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building and integrating complex mechanical equipment or systems
• Experience with integrating automated equipment
• Experience working on basic electrical systems, including wiring and cable routing
• Experience working in a prototype or custom equipment environment

Physical and Work Requirements

• Ability to work safely in a shop and production floor environment
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and work in various positions for extended periods
• Ability to safely lift and move mechanical components and equipment as required
• Use of forklifts to move material and equipment
• Occasional travel to local machine shops, fabricators and training facilities
