Job summary

J&O Plastics in Ohio is seeking an Automation Machine Builder to join the Automation Engineering team on the shop floor, building and modifying automation systems and components. Ideal candidates are comfortable with hand tools, read drawings, perform mechanical assembly, basic electrical wiring, troubleshooting, and have experience with pneumatic circuits; strong safety mindset encouraged.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of hands‑on mechanical experience, preferably with automated systems.
• Experience with measuring tools, including tape measures, calipers, micrometers and gauges.
• Ability to read and interpret part drawings, assembly drawings and technical documentation.
• Familiarity with pneumatic circuits and components.
• Attention to detail and commitment to producing high‑quality work.
• Ability to work independently, while also collaborating with engineers and technicians.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, fabricate, integrate and install automation systems or components
• Read and interpret blueprints or drawings to determine assembly specifications
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues
• Follow electrical drawings to perform basic wiring of junction boxes and cables
• Perform basic machining operations as needed to create or modify components
• Complete pneumatic circuits by routing air hose and connecting components
• Inspect completed assemblies to ensure they are functioning as intended
• Use hand tools, power tools and measuring tools to complete mechanical tasks
• Work with engineers and technicians to identify problems and brainstorm solutions
• Document work progress and communicate issues and modifications that were needed to fix problems
• Follow all company safety procedures and demonstrate safe working practices
