Job summary

City of Smyrna Police Department is seeking a Maintenance Tech to support HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry tasks across town facilities. The role involves constructing and repairing buildings, installing outlets and lighting, and maintaining traffic signal components.

The position requires at least 2 years in two trades, a valid TN driver license, and within 1 year obtainment of Traffic Signal Level I and Work Zone safety certs.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years experience in two (2) of the following fields: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Tennessee Drivers License.
• Must have or be able to obtain Traffic Signal Level I and Work Zone / Traffic Control Safety certifications within 1 year of employment.
• Must wear appropriate PPE when required (safety glasses, breathing mask, hearing protection, hard hats, safety harness).
• High school diploma or GED is required.

Responsibilities

• Constructs facilities including shelters, bathrooms, and pavilions; digs footers, sets forms, trusses, and performs electrical, plumbing and carpentry work.
• Performs carpentry such as hanging doors and building walls and cabinetry.
• Performs electrical work including installing/testing plugs, lights, switches, wires, and conduit; maintains small motors and pumps.
• Performs plumbing including unstopping sewer lines and repairing fixtures.
• Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC and related devices.
• Installs and maintains traffic lights and intersection lighting; inspects and repairs control boxes and relays.
• Follows purchasing procedures for parts; performs safe, OSHA-compliant work.
