Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) is a Fortune 500 company seeking an experienced maintenance mechanic to support a manufacturing operation. You will troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electro‑mechanical systems, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment, and conveyors to increase productivity and reduce downtime.

The role requires 5–8 years of industrial maintenance experience, high safety standards, and willingness to work overtime and weekends.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • 5–8 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in packaging or manufacturing equipment.
  • Able to pass background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a team to support a manufacturing operation and improve productivity.
  • Troubleshoot / maintain / repair electro-mechanical systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, conveyors, and motors.
  • Document and communicate actions and needs to maintain continuity among teams.
  • Maintain equipment, parts and supplies inventory and assist in parts planning.
  • Follow safety rules and maintain 5S in the shop.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a team of mechanics and personnel in support of a manufacturing operation with goal of increasing productivity; decreasing downtime and scrap.
  • Troubleshooting / maintaining / repairing electro-mechanical systems, pneumatic and hydraulic machine, electric motors, conveyors, etc.
  • May be assigned responsibilities in areas of plumbing, metalworking, mechanics and electricity.
  • Controlling downtime by performing routine preventive maintenance techniques and working closely with operators on keeping machines running at peak operation while maintaining the highest safety standards.
  • Maintaining continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintaining equipment, parts and supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels.
  • Work closely with other maintenance mechanics to anticipate needed equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Assume active role in overall plant and facilities-related work.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis to eliminate repeat occurrences maintenance issues.
  • Follow all company safety rules
  • Maintain shop and shop equipment per 5S
  • Other duties as assigned
Essential Skills
  • Must be willing to work closely on a day-to-day basis with other maintenance mechanics.
  • Ability to share ideas with others to solve problems of essential importance.
  • Excellent communication skills with operators and mechanics.
  • Ability to readily initiate equipment improvements and work with various groups within the plant in the identification and resolution of manufacturing problems.
  • Willingness to participate in and ability to learn from the Company sponsored training programs, self -study and apprenticeship, to supplement on-the-job experience toward the development of required skills.
  • Must provide own tools.
  • Thrive in a cross‑functional team environment.
  • Must show leadership in the advancement of quality improvement throughout the manufacturing area.
  • Work with a sense of urgency to reduce downtime of machines.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • 5 - 8 years of experience with industrial maintenance preferably with packaging or Manufacturing equipment.
  • Able to pass background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Shift varies with need; facility works a 10 hour/ 4-day work week-

Hourly Pay Rate $29.39p/hr.
