Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to support a manufacturing operation in our plant. You will troubleshoot and repair electro-mechanical systems, conveyors, and hydraulics, driving uptime and safety.

The role requires 5–8 years of industrial maintenance experience, overtime/weekends as needed, and a commitment to safety and 5S practices. You must provide your own tools and work as part of a cross-functional team.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5–8 years of experience with industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Able to pass background check and pre-employment drug screen.

  • Maintain and repair electro-mechanical systems and conveyors.
  • Troubleshoot and fix pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical components.

Responsibilities
  • Work as part of a team of mechanics and personnel in support of a manufacturing operation with goal of increasing productivity; decreasing downtime and scrap.
  • Troubleshooting / maintaining / repairing electro-mechanical systems, pneumatic and hydraulic machine, electric motors, conveyors, etc.
  • May be assigned responsibilities in areas of plumbing, metalworking, mechanics and electricity.
  • Controlling downtime by performing routine preventive maintenance techniques and working closely with operators on keeping machines running at peak operation while maintaining the highest safety standards.
  • Maintaining continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintaining equipment, parts and supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory levels.
  • Work closely with other maintenance mechanics to anticipate needed equipment, parts, and supplies.
  • Assume active role in overall plant and facilities-related work.
  • Perform root cause failure analysis to eliminate repeat occurrences maintenance issues.
  • Follow all company safety rules
  • Maintain shop and shop equipment per 5S
  • Other duties as assigned
Essential Skills
  • Must be willing to work closely on a day-to-day basis with other maintenance mechanics.
  • Ability to share ideas with others to solve problems of essential importance.
  • Excellent communication skills with operators and mechanics.
  • Ability to readily initiate equipment improvements and work with various groups within the plant in the identification and resolution of manufacturing problems.
  • Willingness to participate in and ability to learn from the Company sponsored training programs, self -study and apprenticeship, to supplement on-the-job experience toward the development of required skills.
  • Must provide own tools.
  • Thrive in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Must show leadership in the advancement of quality improvement throughout the manufacturing area.
  • Work with a sense of urgency to reduce downtime of machines.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • 5 - 8 years of experience with industrial maintenance preferably with packaging or Manufacturing equipment.
  • Able to pass background check and pre-employment drug screening.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends as needed.

Shift varies with need; facility works a 10 hour/ 4-day work week- Overtime as Needed

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Starting salary for position: $28.55 per hour.
  • Bonus: Annual - Based upon achievement of plant performance metrics.
  • Paid Vacation: 2 weeks per calendar year. Pro-rata Vacation during the initial year of hire based upon start date within the calendar year.
  • Paid Holidays.
  • Within the first 30 days of employment, an employee (and their dependents) is eligible to enroll in certain benefit coverages -- medical, dental, and vision - and are automatically enrolled in life, AD&D, and disability coverages.
  • Upon hire, an employee is automatically enrolled in the 401k plan. The plan offers both pre-tax and Roth contribution options along with employer provided matching contributions.
