Job summary

Nidec Corporation is looking for a skilled Maintenance Technician in St. Charles, Illinois, to manage repair and maintenance of automated production machinery. This role includes troubleshooting complex production lines and implementing preventive maintenance programs.

Job description

Job Summary

Perform various skilled and complex tasks in the repair and maintenance of automated production machinery/equipment, including high‑speed automated assembly line equipment, contact welding and press machines, robotic coil winders, axial and radial inserters, wave soldering machines, and SMT equipment. Responsible for continuously improving equipment and machinery while ensuring excellent maintenance service. Lead troubleshooting and repair of electrical, controls, and communications issues on complex production lines, including PLC, HMI, motion control, VFDs, servo motors/drives, industrial networks, and vision inspection systems to return equipment to production.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor, analyze, diagnose, solve, and fine‑tune/repair machine problems in collaboration with manufacturing engineering and production supervisors.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, wiring schematic diagrams, and complex equipment manuals.
  • Utilize advanced mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills in problem assessment.
  • Test and evaluate equipment performance.
  • Use effective PLC diagnostics and programming skills.
  • Support development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs on all equipment.
  • Work closely with production supervisors to schedule preventive maintenance activities.
  • Train production operators on how to perform and assist with simple preventive maintenance duties.
  • Support development and maintenance of the equipment spare parts inventory, and may complete purchase requisitions for spare parts.
  • Investigate causes of machine problems, raw materials, tooling, and equipment issues.
  • Recommend improvements to processes and equipment to improve efficiency.
  • Properly document new procedures and machine changes or additions.
  • Accurately complete all paperwork associated with preventive maintenance and machine downtime.
  • May create special fixtures or modify existing equipment using surface grinders, milling machines, arc welder, and lathes.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment and measuring devices such as voltmeters, calipers, micrometers, and oscilloscopes.
  • Support or participate in the company’s management and quality system, including continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications

Experience: 4+ years as a Maintenance Technician with strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills for automated assembly equipment.

Education: High School diploma, Technical Certificate, Associate Degree, Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent.

  • 2+ years of experience in maintenance of automated assembly equipment.
  • Ability to operate all production equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of electro‑mechanical equipment operating under PLCs, robotics, machining, pneumatics, hydraulics, and sensor controls.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with strong time and project management abilities.
  • Basic PC skills (Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel).
  • Familiarity with computerized preventive maintenance programs preferred.
  • Preventive maintenance experience with exposure to computer software and systems.
  • Ability to perform high‑level mechanical diagnostics, calibration, set‑up, and repair duties.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic functions.
  • Ability to support teamwork processes and collaborate with functional experts (Test Technicians, Process Engineers, Test Operations Group).
  • Ability to support compliance with ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 regulations.
