Job summary

Grand Prairie Foods, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our team in Sioux Falls, SD.

You will perform highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment, following safety and predictive maintenance processes to support site goals. Responsibilities include installing and maintaining production machines, performing unscheduled and scheduled repairs, and reading manuals and work orders.

Qualifications

• High school diploma/GED with craft apprenticeship or equivalent maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures and machinery.
• Read and interpret manuals and work orders; safety in manufacturing.
• 4+ years of manufacturing experience; PLC, HVAC experience preferred.
• GMP familiarity and vacuum furnace experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain production machines and plant equipment.
• Provide emergency and scheduled repairs of production equipment.
• Perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic troubleshooting and repair.
• Read manuals and work orders to perform maintenance services.
• Diagnose problems, replace parts, test and adjust machines.
• Perform preventive maintenance on machines and facilities.
• Carry out plumbing and carpentry tasks as needed.
• Use hand and power tools, meters and material handling equipment.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and clean work areas.
• Ensure facilities and equipment meet food safety and regulatory requirements.

Role

The Maintenance Technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment. These tasks should be done according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems, and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives

Responsibilities

• Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment
• Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service
• Perform mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines
• Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service
• Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test and adjust machines
• Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities
• Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions
• Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties
• Detect faulty operations, defective material and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas
• Ensure that facilities, structures and equipment comply with food safety and meet regulatory requirements

Education & Training Requirements

• High school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience
• Knowledge of the manufacturing processes, procedures, and machinery
• Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers
• Demonstrate knowledge of safety in a manufacturing environment
• An AA degree in mechanical, electrical or industrial maintenance - preferred

Work Experience Requirements

• Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required
• 4+ years of manufacturing experience; strong hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and industrial skills with some PLC experience and HVAC
• Demonstrate full knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices policies and procedures
• Vacuum furnace experience – preferred

Environmental Demands

• Manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers
• Ability to stand, reach, lift, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull up to 75 pounds
• Exposure to fumes or airborne particles from moving mechanical parts and vibrations
• Exposure to variation in temperature
