Responsibilities

River Oaks Hospital, located in metropolitan New Orleans, Louisiana, is a private psychiatric facility for adults, adolescents, and children. Since 1970, River Oaks has established a tradition of excellence in the treatment of acute psychiatric illness, dual diagnosis, alcohol and drug detoxification, trauma‑based disorders, compulsive behaviors, and eating disorders, providing quality treatment to individuals suffering from mental illness and/or addictive disorders. Situated on a 14‑acre campus, services are available at all levels of care (inpatient, day or partial hospitalization, outpatient, and intensive outpatient).

• Maintain the facility in a safe condition, performing general repairs and renovation activities.
• Participate in facility trash handling and assist with maintaining cleanliness of the facility.
• Check work orders several times a day.
• Assemble tools and equipment needed for jobs and complete work assignments.
• Perform assigned preventative maintenance on equipment monthly, completing time‑sensitive preventative maintenance on date of assignment.
• Volunteer on the on‑call schedule for after‑hour emergencies.
• Participate in fire drills or events as a member of the hospital fire brigade.
• Perform additional tasks as requested.
• Keep the Director informed of the status of projects, especially those that are in questionable condition for safety hazards or pending.
• Observe confidentiality and safeguard all patient and employee related information.
• Takes necessary precautions for self and others when using power equipment and chemicals (e.g., safety glasses, gloves).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; formal education in skilled trades highly preferred.
• Maintenance experience required; previous experience in institutional and/or commercial facility maintenance preferred.
• Must be able to perform physical activities such as prolonged standing, walking, bending, stooping, and handling of materials; must be able to push, pull, and lift up to 100 pounds.
• Requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team without continuous supervision.
• Regular and consistent attendance is an essential job function; reliable transportation is required.
• Ability to work well with all types of people.
• Ability to clearly speak, write and understand verbal and written English.
• Ability to work with others in a team environment.
