Job summary

Aerotek in Hampton, IA is seeking a Maintenance Technician to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain manual and CNC production equipment in a manufacturing environment. Qualifications

  • Two to four years of vocational training or six+ years in a related maintenance field.
  • Two to five years of mechanical or industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.

Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Job Description

This role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining manual and CNC production equipment in a manufacturing environment. The Maintenance Technician performs mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic maintenance, supports new equipment installations and upgrades, and ensures safe, reliable operation of all plant machinery. The position requires hands‑on work with high-voltage systems, preventive maintenance tasks, and collaboration with other maintenance and production team members.

Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot all manual and CNC equipment to identify issues and perform effective repairs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on all production equipment in accordance with work order instructions and established schedules.
  • Conduct mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repair work on plant equipment and CNC machines.
  • Work safely with electrical systems, including voltages from 240V to 480V.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot motor controls on 3-phase equipment and control circuits.
  • Troubleshoot and repair machine malfunctions and mechanical problems in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
  • Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and control schematics to support troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Design and implement control solutions for new equipment or refurbished equipment when updates are required.
  • Repair equipment by removing defective parts, installing new or serviceable components, and testing to verify that repairs are successful.
  • Identify parts needed for repairs, obtain quotes, and support the purchasing process for replacement components.
  • Relocate machinery when needed, including assisting with disassembly, movement, and reinstallation.
  • Perform repairs on various plant systems such as heating, cooling, and test equipment.
  • Assist in other maintenance areas as needed to support overall plant operations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in alignment with company housekeeping policies.
  • Perform all work in a safety-conscious manner, remain aware of potential hazards, and take appropriate measures to protect yourself and others.
  • Apply common sense and sound judgment to carry out written and oral instructions and adapt to changing priorities or requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with management and associates in one-on-one and small group settings regarding maintenance issues and equipment status.
Essential Skills
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of vocational training or a minimum of six (6) years of experience in a related maintenance field.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of mechanical or industrial maintenance experience.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment (preferred).
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for manual and CNC equipment.
  • Hands‑on experience with mechanical systems, including machinery alignment, adjustment, and repair.
  • Proficiency working with hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Proficiency working with pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic systems used in industrial equipment.
  • Experience working with 240V–480V electrical systems and 3-phase power.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot motor controls and control circuits.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controls (PLCs).
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to complete preventive maintenance tasks and follow lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, blueprints, correspondence, and memos in English.
  • Ability to write basic correspondence in English and communicate effectively with management and associates.
  • Mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical theory and math sufficient to support troubleshooting.
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule‑based instructions and respond positively to change.
  • Ability to sit, use hands to handle tools and controls, and occasionally stand and walk while performing job duties.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move 50 pounds or more.
  • Close vision and the ability to adjust focus to work with detailed components and documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience reading mechanical blueprints and applying them to maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance (PMs) and following lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Nice‑to‑have electrical certifications related to industrial maintenance or electrical work.
  • OSHA‑related training or certifications.
  • Hands‑on experience working on CNC machines, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Ability to collaborate with another maintenance technician and support cross‑functional teamwork.
  • Comfort working around chemicals in accordance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).

Work Environment

You will work in a manufacturing facility alongside one other maintenance technician, collaborating closely and reporting into a structured maintenance organization. The standard schedule is Monday through Thursday, 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with occasional work on Fridays as needed to support production and maintenance demands. The environment can be louder at times, particularly in manufacturing areas, and you will work around operating machinery, CNC equipment, and various plant systems such as heating, cooling, and test equipment. You will use and be exposed to chemicals as described in Material Safety Data Sheets and are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and hearing protection, when in manufacturing areas. The role involves both seated and active work, including occasional lifting of 50 pounds or more, and requires adherence to safety procedures, including lockout/tagout and other established safety protocols.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hampton, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
