Job summary

HarperCollins Publishers is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Team Lead to guide technicians in keeping a highly automated distribution center running safely and efficiently. Start on first shift for startup and training, with planned transition to second shift after April 5, 2027 based on needs.

Responsibilities include directing daily maintenance, planning preventive and corrective activities, troubleshooting automated systems, and coordinating with Operations to minimize downtime.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical degree, vocational training, or certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred.
• 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution.
• 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of PLC-controlled equipment and automation systems.
• Experience with conveyors, automated material handling equipment, pneumatics, hydraulics, motor controls, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
• Experience troubleshooting Allen-Bradley ControlLogix or similar PLC platform preferred.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Experience with 24VDC, 120VAC, and 480VAC electrical systems.
• Familiarity with NEC, NFPA 70E, and CMMS systems preferred.
• Clear communication, sound judgment, organization, and collaborative leadership.
• Ability to coach and develop team members across departments.
• Willingness to work varied shifts, including weekends and overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily workflow and set priorities for Maintenance Technicians.
• Coach, train, and support team members to improve skills and performance.
• Plan and assign preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance activities.
• Troubleshoot and repair automated material handling systems and facility equipment.
• Diagnose PLC-controlled equipment, electrical systems, sensors, and automation controls.
• Serve as escalation point for complex equipment issues.
• Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions to reduce downtime.
• Coordinate with Operations to minimize disruption and align maintenance needs.
• Support HVAC, plumbing, lighting, and dock equipment maintenance.
• Assist with inspections, life-safety systems, and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee equipment installations, upgrades, and changeovers.
• Maintain CMMS, PM, downtime, and maintenance records.
