Talent ACQ is conducting a confidential search on behalf of an established food manufacturer in Selah, Washington. The plant runs eight production lines, two sauce decks, and a press deck, with roughly 300 people on site. They are hiring an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor to lead the overnight maintenance team.
This is a leadership role first and a technical role second. You will still have a multimeter in your hand and a PLC program open on your laptop, but the reason the job exists is that the overnight operation needs someone who can develop a crew, hold a standard, and partner with Operations when a line goes down at two in the morning.
You would inherit 10 to 15 mechanics, technicians, and multi-craft technicians, and you would own what happens to the equipment between Sunday night and Friday morning.
What you would own
- Your crew. Supervise, coach, and develop 10 to 15 maintenance employees. Set priorities, give real feedback, and handle the difficult conversations rather than routing them upstairs.
- Equipment reliability. Keep the lines, process equipment, utilities, and plant infrastructure running. Drive down unplanned downtime and build out preventive and predictive maintenance.
- Electrical and controls. Troubleshoot and lead work on plant electrical, instrumentation, and control systems. Partner with the corporate engineering group on automation and capital projects.
- The work order system. Enter, prioritize, assign, and close out work orders in the CMMS. Keep the PM program honest and current.
- Documentation and training. Write and maintain SOPs, SSOPs, one point lessons, and PM procedures, and make sure your team is actually trained to them.
- Safety and food safety. Enforce electrical and mechanical safety practices and cGMPs, and support SQF, safety, and energy committee work.
- Spend. Work with the Maintenance Manager on budget and parts inventory, and coordinate with purchasing so parts arrive before you need them.
The schedule, stated plainly
Sunday 9:30 PM through Friday 6:00 AM. This is an overnight role, and it should be the right fit for your life before it is the right fit for your career.
Weekends are not part of the regular schedule. Occasional weekend support comes up and is usually handled by phone. On-site weekend visits are rare. There is an on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies.
What you bring
- Five or more years of industrial electrical experience, including preventive and predictive maintenance program work.
- Three or more years troubleshooting PLCs to solve process problems. Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Wonderware, or Inductive Automation experience is a strong plus, as is a working understanding of industrial Ethernet.
- Demonstrated success supervising and developing a maintenance team, including managing performance problems.
- Genuine range across both electrical and mechanical systems. You can support multi-craft work, not just the electrical side of it.
- Food manufacturing background strongly preferred, with a working command of food safety standards, GMPs, HACCP, and maintenance compliance in a food production environment.
- Comfort with NFPA 70 and 70E and with Washington state electrical code.
- Proficiency with electrical test and instrumentation calibration equipment.
Nice to have
- Washington State electrical journeyman license, or an out-of-state license and the ability to pass the Washington exam.
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering or manufacturing, or certification in electrical or instrumentation and industrial automation.
- Advanced PLC programming.
- HACCP or SQF certification, ammonia, boiler operator, or pneumatics training.
- A track record leading electrical reliability or continuous improvement initiatives.
Compensation and benefits
- $90,000 to $100,000 base salary to start, depending on experience.
- 6% target annual incentive bonus.
- $750 quarterly off-shift bonus when the majority of the quarter is worked on second or third shift.
- Medical, dental, and vision coverage effective your first day of employment, with three medical plan options including an HDHP with HSA.
- 401(k) with a 100% company match on the first 4.5% of eligible pay, with pre-tax, Roth, and after-tax options.
- Paid time off starting at three weeks per year and increasing with tenure, plus eight paid holidays.
- Company-paid life and AD&D coverage at two times annual salary, plus short-term and long-term disability.
- Wellness program with up to $1,000 per year in screening and reward incentives, and an employee assistance program.
- Tuition assistance up to $3,000 per year for undergraduate and $5,000 for graduate study after one year of service.
- Health care and dependent care flexible spending accounts, optional accident, critical illness, and whole life coverage, workwear discounts, and charitable gift matching.
