Position Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead our maintenance team in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. The role is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operation of production equipment and facility systems through preventive and corrective maintenance, effective work order management, spare parts control, and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical and electrical skills with PLC troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and experience managing maintenance planning, budgeting and regulatory compliance (including OSHA and LOTO) to maximize equipment uptime and product quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, coach and develop a team of maintenance technicians to achieve safety, quality and uptime targets.
  • Plan, prioritize and manage daily work orders, preventive maintenance tasks and emergency repairs using the CMMS/work order management system.
  • Perform and oversee mechanical and electrical maintenance including pumps, motors, conveyors, material handling systems, boilers and steam systems, HVAC and food-processing equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLCs, instrumentation and controls; support programming and logic troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain and repair pneumatics, hydraulics, welding and fabrication needs, machine alignment and balancing, and general equipment repair.
  • Conduct vibration analysis, predictive maintenance activities and use root cause analysis to identify and eliminate recurring faults.
  • Manage spare parts and inventory levels to ensure critical parts availability while controlling carrying costs.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) strategies to extend asset life and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Establish and enforce safety and compliance programs including OSHA standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and site-specific food safety practices (HACCP/GMP as applicable).
  • Prepare and manage maintenance budgets, control costs, and track KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, downtime, labor hours, repair costs).
  • Coordinate and oversee contractors and third-party service providers for specialized repairs, inspections and certifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, electrical and mechanical schematics to support repairs, installations and modifications.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, lead root-cause problem solving, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and productivity.
  • Provide training and mentorship on technical subjects, safe work practices and troubleshooting methods.
  • Document maintenance activities, parts usage and compliance records; communicate status and recommendations to operations and management.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree, technical diploma or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical or Industrial Maintenance preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment; experience in food manufacturing strongly preferred.
  • Proven supervisory or lead experience managing multi-craft maintenance teams.
  • Hands-on expertise in mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, plumbing, pumps and motors, conveyors and material handling systems.
  • Experience with boilers and steam systems, HVAC and refrigeration systems related to food processing.
  • Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting skills (Allen-Bradley, Siemens or similar) and proficiency with instrumentation and controls.
  • Skilled in pneumatics, hydraulics, welding/fabrication, blueprint and schematic reading, machine alignment and balancing.
  • Familiar with vibration analysis, condition-based monitoring, root cause analysis and RCM methodologies.
  • Proven troubleshooting and equipment repair capabilities with an emphasis on minimizing downtime.
  • Experience with CMMS/work order management systems, spare parts/inventory management and preventive maintenance scheduling.
  • Demonstrated ability in maintenance planning/scheduling, budgeting and cost control.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and food safety requirements (GMP/HACCP).
  • Certifications preferred: OSHA 10/30, LOTO train-the-trainer, boiler operator, welding certifications, and/or electrical journeyman or technician credentials.
  • Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills; excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends as required and to respond to emergency breakdowns; physically able to perform hands-on maintenance tasks.
