Job summary

CertainTeed, a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, seeks a Maintenance Supervisor for the 2nd shift in our Arkansas plant. You will supervise skilled maintenance staff, coordinate PM activities, and uphold safety and environmental standards to maximize equipment reliability.

You will lead the team through root-cause analysis, trainer development, and adherence to ISO and lean practices, with strong emphasis on 5S and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance tracking systems (PM).
  • Technical diploma or higher in engineering/manufacturing; bachelor's preferred.
  • ISO quality/mgmt knowledge (9001/14001) is desirable.
  • Experience with Lean, TPM, 5S and Six Sigma is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with UKG and SAP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise hourly maintenance personnel and lead safety meetings.
  • Plan and organize planned and unplanned repairs and PM routines.
  • Coach staff, assess performance, and participate in hiring actions.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance Superintendent to develop PMs and track equipment performance.
  • Coordinate training for maintenance staff on SOPs and work instructions.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement countermeasures for equipment losses.
  • Maintain 5S and housekeeping; ensure accurate timekeeping and payroll accuracy.
  • Investigate EH&S incidents and participate in audits and safety programs.

Maintenance Supervisor:
Schedule Requirements

This position is assigned to 2nd Shift (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM) . Flexibility is required to support operational needs, including availability before and after scheduled hours to facilitate effective shift turnover and communication between shifts. Weekend work is required, and employees will be scheduled for two days off during the week .

Supervises the daily activities of skilled maintenance personnel and assists with maintenance project work as assigned. Provides key leadership while promoting positive employee relations within the maintenance team. Consistently and equitably, enforce plant rules, holding crewmembers accountable for all facets of their jobs. Supervisor is held accountable to ensure maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with all environmental, health, and safety requirements, compliance with legal and company policies, and procedures in a manner consistent with SGC Principles of Conduct and Action.

Essential Functions
  • Directly supervises the hourly skilled maintenance employees in the improvement and maintenance of plant equipment, building maintenance, machinery, utilities etc. Will lead shift safety meetings to ensure compliance to all safety, environmental and health policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Organize and structure planned and unplanned repairs and preventive maintenance routines in a manner that will ensure efficient operation of equipment and plant operating systems.
  • Communicates & documents employee expectations and assess employee performance. Provides coaching and development opportunities of maintenance crews and administers disciplinary action up to and including termination if needed. Will be required to assist in the evaluation and selection process of hiring hourly employees.
  • Works with Maintenance Superintendent/Manager to develop PM’S that drive improved reliability as well as developing and maintaining standard – will maintain records of all plant and individual equipment performance.
  • Oversees the training of maintenance employees to ensure they receive adequate training prior to repairing/working on any of the manufacturing equipment per standard operating and maintenance procedures, and work instructions.
  • Assists in performing root-cause analysis as well as implementing sustainable countermeasures on losses related to equipment/machinery failure.
  • Maintains workplace organization to ensure good housekeeping (5S) by holding employees responsible for all assigned work areas.
  • Reviews and approves employee time in the UKG timekeeping system and ensures employees are paid the correct hours and wages in accordance with the respective sites pay policies and procedures or collective bargaining agreements.
  • Investigate EH&S incidents – Injuries, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage.Conduct EHS and SMAT Audits to support the plants EHS goals. Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities.Participate in the development, understanding and review of all position job safety assessments and standard operating procedures and participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
  • A minimum of 5 years of Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
  • A high level of knowledge/understanding of Preventive Maintenance (PM) tracking systems is required
  • A technical diploma in the fields of engineering/manufacturing or equivalent experience and a thorough knowledge of skills utilized in maintenance manufacturing improvement.
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, business or a related field is highly preferred
  • General understanding of ISO methodology (ISO 9001, 14001, & OHSAS 18001)
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 5S & Six Sigma a plus
  • Proficient in use of MS Office (familiarity with UKG and SAP systems) – high-level knowledge of computer systems/programs, especially in areas of preventive maintenance solutions/tracking.
