Scientific Protein Laboratories LLC (SPL) is a world leader in biosourced pharmaceuticals, located just outside Madison, Wisconsin in Waunakee. We seek a Maintenance Supervisor to lead a skilled maintenance team, oversee facilities and equipment, and ensure safe, compliant operations across the site.

The role partners with Operations, Quality, and R&D to maintain asset reliability and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience overseeing maintenance technicians and contractors.
  • Experience managing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Experience maintaining facility systems, utilities, infrastructure, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Familiarity with cGMP, FDA regulations, and documentation requirements.
  • Knowledge of asset management and reliability-centered maintenance principles.
  • Experience using CMMS for work orders, preventive maintenance scheduling, and asset tracking.

Join our team at Scientific Protein Laboratories (SPL), a world leader in biosourced pharmaceuticals, located just outside of Madison, Wisconsin in Waunakee! SPL is an innovative biopharmaceutical leader with unique products and services supporting the pharmaceutical industry globally. For over 40 years, SPL specializes in the development and cGMP compliant manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).

Great opportunity to join our team as a Maintenance Supervisor. The focus of this position is to provide leadership to a skilled maintenance technical staff in the implementation of maintenance programs that support reliable operation and extend the useful life of assets. The Maintenance Supervisor must communicate effectively and work closely with Operations, Quality, and R&D personnel and foster a team environment, both with the department and externally. The position responsibilities include oversight of the buildings, grounds and infrastructure to ensure that they are maintained in a safe, operable condition that provides a favorable impression for our clients.

Responsibilities include:
  • Communicates effectively with Operations, Quality, R&D, and other departments to determine needs, opportunities, and priorities. Fosters teamwork at all levels.
  • Coordinates, arranges, and supervises maintenance personnel in the completion of corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance activities on all SPL equipment and facilities.
  • Evaluates equipment histories and condition and provides a summary of maintenance recommendations to the Manager of Maintenance.
  • Monitors compliance to company procedures, practices, and financial goals.
  • Ensures that equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe, operable condition according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
  • Participates in the development of policies and procedures related to the maintenance of facilities, grounds, and equipment.
  • Identifies and attends in training opportunities relevant to position. Provides staff training in a variety of topics including effective utilization of the maintenance logs, completion of routine maintenance specific to the facility, equipment operations, fire safety, lockout/tagout, and so forth. Arranges and coordinates relevant training required by regulation, SOP or cGMP for department.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience overseeing maintenance technicians and contractors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Experience maintaining facility systems, utilities, infrastructure, and manufacturing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), FDA regulations, and documentation requirements
  • Familiarity with equipment lifecycle management, reliability-centered maintenance, and asset management principles.
  • Experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for work order management, preventive maintenance scheduling, and asset tracking.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other computerized maintenance and monitoring systems.
  • Ability to establish priorities and coordinate maintenance activities with Operations, Quality, Engineering, and R&D teams.
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets, monitoring department performance metrics, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a culture of accountability, safety, and teamwork.
  • Thorough understanding of GMP documentation practices and change control processes.
  • Experience supporting internal audits, regulatory inspections, and quality investigations.
  • Knowledge of equipment qualification, calibration, maintenance documentation, and record retention requirements.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with SOPs, environmental regulations, safety policies, and company procedures.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining training programs related to regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Understanding of occupational safety requirements and risk assessment methodologies.
  • Strong collaboration skills with Operations, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and R&D departments.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or life sciences manufacturing facilities.
  • Knowledge of FDA, DEA, OSHA, EPA, and GMP regulations.

  • Ability to prepare maintenance reports, recommendations, and performance summaries for management.
Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Facilities Management, or a related technical discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, food manufacturing, or other GMP-regulated facilities.
