Job summary

West Fraser is seeking a maintenance supervisor for our Arkansas operation. The role emphasizes safety, leadership, and proactive maintenance planning to meet production and quality standards.

You will guide a team, work with shift supervisors and maintenance staff, and drive cost-efficient operations. The ideal candidate has at least five years of industrial experience, Journeyman Electrician or Millwright background, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years (plus) of industrial experience.
  • Leadership and communication skills required.
  • Two or Four-year degree preferred.
  • Prior Journeyman Electrician or Millwright experience is valued.

Responsibilities

  • Achieving maintenance goals with a focus on employee safety.
  • Support troubleshooting and observations of machine centers with shift supervisors and maintenance staff to meet production and quality standards.
  • Manage department costs and educate key metrics.
  • Plan maintenance and coordinate non-emergency PM routes.
  • Communicate goals and instructions effectively.
  • Supervise Maintenance and Cleanup personnel on varying schedules.
  • Oversee contractor safety through active leadership.
  • Maintain sawmill equipment (e.g., De-Barkers, Gang Edgers, Trimmer, Conveyors, Chippers).
  • Ensure crew safety through lock-out procedures and field level risk assessments.
  • Arrange West Fraser training and mentor apprentices.
  • Plan improvement projects and manage parts with the purchaser.
  • Schedule and track attendance; occasional weekend coverage.
  • Inspect completed work.

The successful candidate will have excellent organizational skills, be self-directed, and be confident in their decision-making abilities.

Functions And Responsibilities
  • Achieving Maintenance goals with the highest regard for employee safety
  • Capable of supporting troubleshooting & observations of machine centers with shift supervisors and other maintenance staff to ensure production and quality standards are met
  • Managing the department cost in an aggressive manner assuring optimum manufacturing unit cost; develop and educate key metrics.
  • Maintenance Planning, planning non-emergency maintenance, coordinating PM routes
  • Effectively communicating goals and/or instructions
  • Managing conflicts
  • Supervising Maintenance and Cleanup personnel on varying schedules
  • Managing contractor safety through active leadership.
  • Maintenance of sawmill equipment (this includes but is not limited to De-Barkers, Gang Edgers, Trimmer, Sorter, Stacker, Conveyors, Chippers, Blowers, Hydraulic Systems, Pneumatic Systems)
  • Safety of the crew (Lock-Out Procedures, assisting with and verifying Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA), Safety Audits)
  • Arrange WF Training for and mentoring apprentices
  • Creating and planning improvement projects
  • Managing parts with the purchaser
  • Scheduling and attendance
  • Will include periodic weekend coverage
  • Inspecting completed work
