Job summary

West Fraser in North Carolina seeks a Maintenance Supervisor to lead hourly personnel and manage the maintenance process, resources, and workforce to meet budgets and objectives. You will report to the Maintenance Superintendent and guide Millwrights, Electricians, Welders and Contractors in a full-time capacity.

Five+ years of industrial experience and a Journeyman Electrician or Millwright rating are required, with supervisory experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of industrial experience.
  • Journeyman Electrician or Millwright required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Two- or Four-year degree preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.

  • Ensure production and quality standards through troubleshooting.
  • Maintain safety via LOTO procedures and risk assessments.

Description

The successful candidate will provide leadership, training, and development to hourly personnel by managing the process flow, resources and workforce to meet and exceed established budgets and performance objectives. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Superintendent in this full-time role, the successful candidate will lead a maintenance crew of Millwrights, Electricians, Welders and Contractors. Higher consideration will be granted to those who have previous experience in the wood remanufacturing sector in a Sawmill, Planer Mill or with forest products.

What You Will Do:

  • Achieving Maintenance goals with the highest regard for employee safety
  • Capable of supporting troubleshooting & observations of machine centers with shift supervisors and other maintenance staff to ensure production and quality standards are met
  • Managing the department cost in an aggressive manner assuring optimum manufacturing unit cost; develop and educate key metrics.
  • Maintenance Planning, planning non-emergency maintenance, coordinating PM routes
  • Effectively communicating goals and/or instructions
  • Managing conflicts
  • Supervising Maintenance and Cleanup personnel on varying schedules
  • Managing contractor safety through active leadership
  • Maintenance of sawmill equipment (this includes but is not limited to De-Barkers, Gang Edgers, Trimmer, Sorter, Stacker, Conveyors, Chippers, Blowers, Hydraulic Systems, Pneumatic Systems)
  • Safety of the crew (Lock-Out Procedures, assisting with and verifying Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRA), Safety Audits)
  • Arrange WF Training for and mentoring apprentices
  • Creating and planning improvement projects
  • Managing parts with the purchaser
  • Scheduling and attendance
  • Will include periodic weekend coverage
  • Inspecting completed work

What You Will Need:

  • Prior Journeyman Electrician or Millwright
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Well organized
  • Minimum of five years (plus) of industrial experience
  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Two or Four-year degree preferred
  • Prior Supervisory experience preferred
