Job Responsibilities

Calhoun Falls State Park sits along several pine-covered points extending out into sparsely-developed Lake Russell. The Calhoun Falls campground is one of the most coveted in the park system, with spacious RV and tent sites complete with forested, shoreline views of the lake. Day-use activities include a short, easy nature trail, tennis court, seasonal swimming, and fishing. The park also attracts various events year-round, including fishing tournaments and the popular South Carolina Campground Cookoff.

Job Purpose and Duties

Assists the Park Manager with the overall maintenance activities of Calhoun Falls State Park, including upkeep and maintenance of grounds and facilities, and the scheduling and supervision of assigned staff.

  • Supervises assigned employees involved in maintenance projects through proper training, guidance, scheduling work, and completing performance evaluations.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities related to park grounds following established procedures and guidelines, maintaining a safe work environment. Ensures assignments are completed, staff performance is monitored daily, and participates in planning specialized work projects and their timely completion. Assists with short-term and long-term park maintenance planning and implementation.
  • Performs and directs manual duties required to complete assigned projects. Supervises and performs routine repairs and maintenance of all motorized equipment, including tools, lawn equipment, and ensures records are kept on maintained equipment.
  • Manages materials with coordination through the Park Manager, including repairs of motorized equipment such as pumps, mowers, weed eaters, park vehicles, carts, chainsaws, woodworking equipment, and hand tools.
  • Participates in planning annual maintenance projects.
  • Assists with park operation tasks, including completing forms and reports, ordering, and stocking supplies used for repairs and clean-up.
  • Promotes teamwork within the State Park Service, across the agency, and with external stakeholders. Represents the office as an active member on agency teams throughout the year.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent and three (3) years' experience in building and grounds maintenance.

Additional Requirements

  • Licensed or competent in electrical, plumbing, and carpentry trades. Ability to read and understand written procedures, blueprints, and write material specifications.
  • Ability to operate various office equipment.
  • Requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and other maintenance materials and tools.
  • Must work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Location: Calhoun Falls State Park

Full-time, 40 hours/week, rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
