Job summary

CalPortland in Mojave, CA is seeking a Maintenance Person III to perform mechanical maintenance, repair, and installation on plant buildings and equipment, including welding and cutting as needed.

The role requires reading blueprints, diagnosing problems, leading a crew, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance, with training provided through CalPortland’s maintenance program.

Qualifications

• Must possess the dexterity necessary to perform all tasks.
• Ability to use various hand tools and equipment as necessary.
• Physical requirements: working in confined spaces, welding, cutting, ability to lift over 50 lbs., and climb up to elevations of 100 ft.
• Solid mechanical/control system skills, and the ability to train others.
• Must complete CalPortland’s Maintenance training program.

The Maintenance Person III performs any mechanical maintenance, repair, modifications, and installation work as directed on plant buildings, machinery, dust collectors, lubrication. Maintenance/repairs include welding and cutting as needed.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Must possess the dexterity necessary to perform all tasks
• Ability to use various hand tools and equipment as necessary
• Physical requirements: working in confined spaces, welding, cutting, ability to lift over 50 lbs., and climb up to elevations of 100 ft.
• Ability to climb stairs/ladders, and walk on uneven or rough terrainAbility to work outdoors in inclement weather (heat, cold, rain) for shifts up to 12 hours in length
• Solid mechanical/control system skills, and the ability to train others
• Able to work effectively both individually and as part of a team
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with mine site safety rules and regulations
• Must complete CalPortland’s Maintenance training program

Preferred:

• Mining experience or other experiences that require welding, fabricating, belt splicing
• Familiarity working around crushers, screens, sand screws, etc.

Conditions of Employment

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer pre-employment physical examination, drug/alcohol screen, and background check. Some positions require FMCSA regulated ongoing drug and alcohol testing.
