Job summary

Pitt State is seeking a part-time custodial assistant to support Housing & Residence Life. You will work in Residence Halls performing painting, cleaning, carpet care, and basic maintenance tasks under supervision.

The position involves physical cleaning duties, inventory support, and collaboration with maintenance staff. Workload: 20 hours/week during sessions, up to 40 hours/week during breaks/summer if desired.

Qualifications

• Experience with custodial cleaning tasks.
• Ability to perform physical cleaning tasks (painting, lifting, scrubbing).

Responsibilities

• Paint common spaces (lobbies, hallways).
• Shampoo carpets and clean floors.
• Sweep, mop, and vacuum stairwells.
• Empty dehumidifiers on every floor.
• Deep clean community areas 1x/month.
• Wipe surfaces, railings, furniture, and vending machines.
• Assist maintenance staff as needed.
• Create logs of recurring issues for follow-up.

Job Duties:
Work to be performed within Residence Halls in Housing & Residence Life. Tasks to include: painting with brush and roller, scraping, sanding, lifting, pressure washing, carpet cleaning, floor & stairwell sweeping, mopping/vacuuming. General cleaning and inventory assistance.

Some examples include:

• Painting of common spaces (lobbies, hallways, etc.
• Shampoo carpets
• Sweep/mop/clean stairwells
• Empty Dehumidifiers on every floor of each residence hall
• Deep Clean of Community Kitchen 1x/month
• Wipe down all railings, flat surfaces, furniture, vending machines, etc. in hall community spaces
• Troubleshooting (if skilled to do so) for water fountains or issues in restrooms
• Create log of issues per building that are long-standing so that we can create a plan of attack to get these deferred items back to functional (I would take the info and then follow up with the crew until someone new into role/ADF)
• Inventory custodial closets and restock if/as needed (or supply request list so I can have Dusty stock)
• May assist in lower level facility concerns as/if needed and/or accompany maintenance staff into student spaces
• Other duties as assigned
