Position Overview
This position reports to the Superintendent of Traffic and is responsible for operating motorized equipment, hand/power tools, and assisting Equipment Operators in the installation and maintenance of devices that ensure the orderly movement of motorized, non-motorized, and pedestrian traffic.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections.
- Conduct daily preventive maintenance on motorized equipment and hand tools.
- Maintain tools and equipment in safe and good working condition.
- Keep the job site and vehicles/equipment neat and organized.
- Complete related duties to support project completion.
- Maintain records of work performed, including schedules, reports, and work orders.
- Paint lane lines and designated curbs on streets and thoroughfares.
- Install and maintain thermoplastic roadway markings and signage.
- Set up and maintain lane marking devices and barricades.
- Assist with setting up work zone traffic control.
- Fulfill on-call duties as outlined in the Traffic Operations on-call roster.
- Assist in maintaining Traffic Operations building and grounds.
- Trim trees to clear sign obstructions.
- Fabricate signs as needed.
- Attend monthly safety meetings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Ability to sit, stand, and drive to various work sites. Exposure to seasonal temperatures, hazardous equipment, traffic, and work zones with high vehicular volume. Ability to lift materials as required.
Minimum Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- No experience necessary.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform essential functions.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge or training in street construction and maintenance, including underground drainage systems.
- Understanding of safety practices and hazards.
- Skill in operating light equipment and machinery.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to perform physical labor.
- Ability to comprehend and perform work assignments.
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Class C Texas driver's license.

Work Schedule
Monday through Friday; 8-hour workday; overtime may be required as needed.
