How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:


Coordinates and monitors the maintenance, repair, minor renovation and construction and administrative activities of maintenance personnel and contracted personnel as assigned to perform required building maintenance in and around the facility.

  • Monitors the care and maintenance of facilities, supplies, equipment, and work areas and performs related duties to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the building systems. Consults with Supervisor/Manager/Director of Plant Engineering on assignments and projects and keeps them informed of related activities, needs and problems. Advises on building and system conditions which warrant emergency repairs and improvements.
  • Coordinates plans, schedules and implements activities for assigned maintenance personnel and assures timely accomplishment of assigned workload in maintenance repairs, renovation and general building maintenance. Coordinates frequency and schedule preventative maintenance of facility systems, equipment and other items under the assigned responsibility for their care and maintenance.
  • Monitors work in progress and prepares reports and documents as required. Receives assignments, reviews work orders, prioritizes, informs management of status and time schedules, and ensures work is completed as specified. Establishes activity objectives and production standards, monitors work flow and complies with all codes, regulations and accreditation requirements. Maintains production standards, monitors work flow and time schedules to accomplish maintenance work assigned. Assists in monitoring and proper completion of work order system data.
  • Assists in selection, orientation/training of Maintenance staff. Encourages professional growth and development of staff and provides for and participates in department in-services.
  • Acts as Job foreman, for in house renovation projects and ensures compliance with all applicable code and regulations associated with assigned construction trades. Plans, coordinates and schedules the activities and completion of renovation projects as assigned. Periodically inspects buildings and grounds, and makes recommendations on needed repairs, replacements, installations additions, etc. Provides supervision, guidance and technical assistance as needed to work crew. Collaborates with other facility personnel to ensure timely completion of all projects
  • Organizes and maintains inventory of tools, equipment and supplies. Inspects and schedules maintenance of machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer's specifications. Maintains and enforces established Carilion and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control. Attends required meetings and in-services and may participate on committees as requested. Assists in developing capital projects and operating expense budgets, progress reports, and other special projects as needed. Researches new techniques, materials, equipment and makes recommendations to management.
What We Require:


Education: High school diploma or equivalent, College scholastic preparation or an associate’s degree preferred. Completion of a technical course of study or completion of apprenticeship in one or more of the trades highly desirable.

Experience: Five years experience in maintenance trades with three to five years at an advanced level or construction management experience.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: Valid Virginia Driver’s License required.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of and ability in the areas of blueprint reading, drafting, estimating, building construction standards, and national, state local codes and regulations and crafts associated with construction and facility management Training and supervisor certification may be required as part of the responsibilities of this position and would be provided at the expense of Carilion. Ability to learn Microsoft Office and become proficient in use of a computerized work order control system. Position is deemed “emergency personnel” during emergency weather conditions. May be asked to provide own transportation and travel to other Carilion work sites. May be required to work at other Carilion facilities.
