Job summary

Knight Transportation is seeking an experienced maintenance leader to oversee our heavy-duty vehicle shops. You will supervise shop staff, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, manage budgeted operations, and coordinate cost-reduction initiatives across locations.

The role requires strong communication, vendor negotiation, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, with bilingual English/Spanish capability for certain locations.

Qualifications

• 4+ years heavy duty vehicle maintenance experience.
• Previous shop leadership experience.
• Vendor negotiation experience preferred.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft suite.
• FOR SPECIFIC LOCATIONS ONLY: Must be bilingual in English and Spanish for the purpose of verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Oversee assigned maintenance shop(s), ensure staffing within budget and safety requirements.
• Ensure shop building and yard are equipped with tools and safety gear.
• Ensure employees complete safety training and certifications where needed.
• Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations (EPA/OSHA).
• Lead shop supervision and daily activities of shop supervisors and team.
• Monitor purchases and enforce KNX policies and procedures.
• Determine best repair decisions for equipment in shops.
• Lead estimates and bids for outsourced equipment repairs.
• Negotiate with local vendors for uniforms, disposal, supplies.
• Ensure customer locations have schedules for tire inflation and safety checks.
• Lead customer-site trailer maintenance and feedback on programs.
• Collaborate with departments to measure performance and drive corrective actions.
