Job summary

Catholic Charities Brooklyn and Queens is seeking an on-site Handyperson II to maintain and repair properties managed by POP Management. You will perform routine repairs, assist with turnovers, and ensure a safe, clean environment for residents and visitors in buildings across Brooklyn and Queens.

Ideal candidates bring residential maintenance skills, basic plumbing/electrical knowledge, and the ability to read and communicate in English. Flexibility with hours, including weekends, is required.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required or waived for 2 years related experience.
• FDNY Certificates of Fitness preferred or required within 6 months of hire.
• Experience with cleaning and basic repair equipment (vacuum, floor machines, snow blower).
• Skilled in general residential maintenance (carpentry, painting, basic plumbing, electrical).
• Ability to read, write, and speak English; bilingual in Spanish/Korean/Chinese/Russian preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Superintendent to maintain property and document service requests.
• Perform routine repairs in buildings and monitor mechanical systems.
• Coordinate with vendors, tenants, and contractors; inspect elevators and HVAC as needed.
• Assist with apartment turnovers including repairs and fixture replacements.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of mechanical rooms and exteriors; follow sanitation guidelines.
• Cover front desk and answer main building phone when required; provide backup coverage as needed.
